Obituary of Mariellen Esler
Mariellen Esler, 65, passed away peacefully on July 7, 2018 at her home on Whiteface Inn Ln in Lake Placid.
She was born on October 16, 1952 in San Bernardino, California, the daughter of Rose and Benjamin Esler and grew up in Stanton, California, a suburb of Los Angeles.
Mariellen enjoyed many activities including running, hiking, yoga, cycling, golf, canoeing and was an avid reader. She completed the Lake Placid Half Marathon twice and climbed Mt. Kilimanjaro in Africa. She also took several international bicycling trips to locations such as Italy, South Viet Nam, and South Africa. Her many other travels took her around the world from Argentina and Brazil to Cambodia and China where she hiked the Great Wall. Being a southern California girl at heart she equally enjoyed beach vacations to the Caribbean islands. She was a long time employee of the Social Security Administration in Plattsburgh having reached the position of technical expert where she excelled.
She is survived by her loving partner of 42 years Michael Sorel, sister Katherine Savora, mother-in-law Edna Sorel, brother-in-law Thomas Sorel (Laurie), sister-in-law Jean Silcock, and many cousins, nieces and nephews. She had a special relationship with her niece, Diana Savora (Jon) whom she was very close to. She is predeceased by her parents, her father-in-law Clifford Sorel and her brother-in-law Maurice Savora.
Mariellen had the most beautiful smile and a love for life. She will be dearly missed by all.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made in her memory to the American Cancer Society or High Peaks Hospice.
Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, July 11, 2018 from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM at the M. B. Clark Funeral Home in Lake Placid with a remembrance service immediately following.
