Obituary of Donald Edgley
Donald G. Edgley, age 85, of Lake Placid, NY passed away Sunday, July 29, 2018 at the Elizabethtown Community Hospital in Elizabethtown, NY. Mr. Edgley was born August 24, 1932 in Lake Placid, NY. He is the son of the late Monroe H. and the late Marguerita (Lawlor) Edgley of Carlow, Ireland.
Don was a graduate of Lake Placid High School, Class of 1950 and participated in football and track. He kept friendship with his classmates and was always a "Bomber" fan.
Don enlisted in the United States Air Force and after tech school he was an Aircraft Engine Mechanic and Aircraft Electrician. He was especially fond of the F86 Sabre Jets that he worked on in Japan. He was a Veteran of the Korean War serving from 1951 to 1954.
Upon returning home he worked at the Lake Placid Club and Lake Placid Plumbing and Heating Co. as an electrician and in 1964 bought stock in the Lake Placid Electric Co. with partners Roy Allen and Bill Davis. He eventually was the sole owner and sold his stock to E.T. Farr in 1992 and retired in 1994.
Don was married to Agnes Edwards June 3, 1957 and they were the proud parents of Leonard Williams and his wife Kathleen of Webster, NY; Gerald "Jerry" Edgley of Lake Placid, NY and Karen Sullivan and her husband Jim of Lake Placid, NY. He was also survived by four grandchildren, Jesse Williams, Hannah Tanalski, Travis Tomich, and Lauren Follett; one great-grandchild, Maddison Tomich
Don was a 58 year member of the American Legion, Post 326, Lake Placid, NY where he served for many years as Chaplain. He became a member of Lake Placid Lodge # 834 Free and Accepted Masons in May of 1956. He was the Master three times and from 1986 to 1988 was the District Deputy Grand Master of the Essex district.
Don was predeceased by his wife Agnes Edgley. She died Nov. 13, 2017. He also was predeceased by three brothers, Roy, Sidney and Robert.
Calling hours will be held at the M. B. Clark, Inc. Funeral Home in Lake Placid, NY on Wednesday, August 1st from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM with a Masonic Prayer Service at 5:45 PM followed by an American Legion Prayer Service. A Funeral Service will be held Thursday August 2nd at 2:00 PM at the Adirondack Community Church in Lake Placid, NY. Burial will follow at North Elba Cemetery in Lake Placid, NY. Donations may be made to the Lake Placid Volunteer Ambulance Service in his memory.
