It is with a heavy heart, we announce that Michael A. LaPorte, 51, of Wilmington, NC, formally of Champlain NY, passed away on October 3rd in Wilmington, NC. On December 5, 1966 Michael was the first born child of Linda (Phaneuf) and Albert LaPorte of Champlain, NY.
A proud veteran, he received his certificate in X-ray and CAT Scan technology while active duty in the US Army. He spent a majority of the remainder of his career in the medical field working for both hospitals and private practices. Upon retirement from the medical field, Michael choose to do what he loved doing most which was being a handy man to all of his family and friends.
Michael enjoyed hunting, fishing, a good party with good friends, music and his family. He was a caring soul to all lucky enough to have known him. A beloved member of his family and community his memory will be held dearly by all who knew him.
Michael leaves behind his children, Megan LaPorte of Plattsburgh, Mitchell and Brittney LaPorte of Wilmington, NC, and Mikayla Laporte of New Paltz, NY. Michael also leaves behind his beloved parents, Albert and Linda LaPorte of Champlain, NY, his sisters, Melissa LaPorte of Champlain and Jessica Badger of Rouses Point. He also leaves behind several nieces and nephews including James Menard and Brandon McCauslin of Champlain, NY, Katelyn LaPorte of Champlain, Karissa and Nicholas Bouchard of Swanton, VT and Keaton and Camden Badger of Rouses Point. Michael also leaves behind 2 grandchildren that were the apple of his eye, Chloe Merry and Jaxsen LaPorte.
Michael was predeceased in death by his beloved brother, Joe LaPorte, his paternal grandparents, Gordon and Pauline LaPorte, and his maternal grandparents, Antoine and Addie Phaneuf.
