Obituary of Donald A. Tetreault
Donald A. Tetreault, 83, a lifetime resident of Champlain, passed away Sunday, December 23, 2018 at home with his loving family by his side and under the care of Hospice of the North Country.
Born June 17, 1935 in Coopersville, he was the youngest son of the late Wilfred and Levida (Remillard) Tetreault. On May 6, 1961, he married the former Suzanne Poirier at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Plattsburgh and they celebrated 57 years of marriage.
He and his brother, Roland operated a dairy farm in Champlain until retiring in 1989. Following his retirement, he spent many hours assisting both his sons at their businesses and helping his daughter at her home on Lake Champlain. He also enjoyed vegetable and flower gardening at his home.
A man of great faith, he was a devoted member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Champlain where he enjoyed helping decorate the church for Christmas for many years, and was an active volunteer with their mission center for over 20 years.
Donald was a third-degree knight with the Knights of Columbus Council #3525, Champlain for more than 50 years, and was honored with knight of the year in 2005.
Earlier in life he was active with the Champlain Boy Scouts and North Country Hockey. Donald was honored with “Outstanding Volunteer Service” award in 2001 with over 24,000 hours of volunteer service. He and his wife enjoyed spending many winters in Marco Island, FL.
Surviving besides his wife are two sons and daughters-in-law: Steven D. and Julie Tetreault, Hughesville, PA; Greg W. and Susan Tetreault, Plattsburgh; a daughter and son-in-law: Louise T. and David Barrow, St. Albans, VT; six grandchildren: Stephanie (Travis) Doebler, Sean, Jessica, and Kelsey Tetreault, and Daniel and Helen Barrow; and three great-granddaughters: Allison, Amelia, and Anne Doebler.
He was preceded in death by his brothers: John Paul Tetreault (2012) and Roland Tetreault (2014).
Friends and family are invited to call from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Friday, December 28 at M. B. Clark Funeral Home, 196 Elm Street, Champlain. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, December 29 at 11:00 AM at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 86 Church Street, Champlain. Burial will take place in the spring in St. Mary’s Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions in Donald’s memory be made to either Hospice of the North Country, 358 Tom Miller Road, Plattsburgh, NY 12901 or St. Mary’s Center Fund, Champlain, NY.
