Obituary of Orville "Bing" J. Gload, Jr.
Orville J. “Bing” Gload, Jr., 84, of Champlain, NY passed away May 17, 2019 at UVM-CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh, NY. Born September 4, 1934 to the late Elizabeth (Peters) and Orville J. Gload, Sr., Bing served our nation and local community for many years, even following retirement. He will be remembered by many for his passion of antiques, fishing, and hunting.
In his young life, Bing attended local schools. Graduating at Mount Assumption Institute in Plattsburgh, he later went on to attend Auburn Community College. Entering service of the U.S. Army in 1957, he was stationed in Korea then Fort Meade, MD serving alongside the National Security Agency. Honorably discharged in 1960 after receiving a good conduct medal, Bing began working for New York Department of Corrections, retiring as Deputy Superintendent for Security at Watertown Correctional Facility. He served on the Champlain EMS Board of Directors for ten years, including six years as chairman. Following retirement, he became village Justice of Champlain for six years.
Bing was a lifetime member of several organizations throughout his life, including the New York State Magistrates Association, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1418 in Champlain, Knights of Columbus 4th Degree in Bishop Wadham’s General Assembly in Plattsburgh, Knights of Columbus 3rd Degree Post 3525 in Champlain, Plattsburgh Elk’s Lodge 621, and AMVETS Post 1814 in Plattsburgh.
Including his parents, Bing is predeceased by one sister, Carole A. Patnode. He is survived by his companion Kay Papin, two nephews, Michael (Gretchen) Patnode of Peru and Steven Patnode of Plattsburgh, his niece Susan (Jeffrey) Moore of Plattsburgh, and brother-in-law James A. Patnode of Plattsburgh.
There will be no calling hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Mary’s Church in Champlain at 11:00 AM on Saturday, May 25, 2019. Interment will occur privately at a later date at convenience to the family. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Champlain EMS Department. Arrangements are in the care of M. B. Clark Funeral Home in Champlain, NY.
