In the early seventies I stumbled across an ad in the newspaper for LaGuardia community college. I have been recently discharged from the US Marines and was essentially lost with no direction whatsoever. I applied and was accepted to a program for veterans at LaGuardia and was fortunate enough to spend an internship with Kathy. I don't know if I could possibly describe the effect she had on my life. Before LaGuardia and the Marines I had grown up in Mississippi in extremely poor circumstances. Kathy was such an inspiration to me and made me feel like I could do something in life for which I will always be very grateful. I wish I had stayed in touch with her through the years because my life would have been completely different without my relationship with her.

I was deeply saddened to learn of Cathy's passing. We worked together at LaGuardia Community College serving on the College Senate and in other various activities that helped turn around the lives of students for the better.
