I didn't know until just now. 11:00 pm July 25th 2023. I'm sorry I didn't know. I'm sorry you've gone on.
I was just telling a friend how I used to sing Little Bunny Foo Foo to you and your brother on the bus. Time is a very weird thing. It feels like yesterday and forever ago all at the same time. You were a sweet, dear little kid. I'm sure you were a sweet and dear adult too and the world lost someone very special.
Until we meet again.

Owed to Casey Joe
Two years gone. Nah…Not possible, is it?
Not much owed, really. Just a thanks. That’s all.
If not for that smile, that kiss, that push, that shove
I’d be nowhere—not here. So I owe you.
Hey, remember how quick you’d snatch away
My Polaroid‽ Every time! But once:
For Christmas you deigned. You took ‘em with you—
All but one. Geeeez, those bluestar sapphire eyes…
Remember that used bookstore? You picked out
cookbooks, a silly vampire novel
And you handed me Schell’s Fate of the Earth.
You said, Read this but don’t tell me the end.
You got that purple suit for the Prince show.
I got a night in Montreal for keeps.
Did we ever come close to getting ev’n?
Nah. I still owe ya. So I remember.

Oh Casey! That smile! We were so tight as littles, I'm so sorry we didn't keep in touch. For all of the "if only"s, one of my biggest is if only I had reached out to you. So happy it seems you continued to make people smile and feel good about themselves as you always tried to do when we were kids. I'll always think of you fondly and remember all of the trouble we got up to!!!!! Missing you.... My deepest sympathies to all of those whose loves you touched

This past winter Casey and I met up for breakfast and ended up talking for over 3 hours. We reminisced about our playground days, skiing at Mt. Whitney and first crushes. We shared stories of challenges we went through as we were older. I discovered new connections between us. I left our breakfast date feeling so much comfort and love. Casey said that he had been brainstorming ways to support his community schools and insisted on donating money for supplies for my classroom. My condolences to his family and many friends.
