So sorry to hear of this news, especially sorry we never re-connected with him after spending the few years there managing his stable and Inn...His humor and presence will live forever in our memories. Hugs to Brandy, Fox, and especially Katie whom we saw grow up when she was a little girl.
Love, Missy and Mark Williams

To Joe Pete’s family & friends,
I am so sorry you have lost Joe Pete, such a huge presence in your lives.
My memories of him are of his big-heartedness & his sense of adventure & purpose: him getting out on the excavator in the Bark Eater fields at first light to build new trails; driving Goldilocks, his Ford Crown Victoria, all the way to Albany in a snowstorm to pick up friends stranded when Amtrak went out; dancing around to a roadhouse jukebox while singing “Hang on, Snoopy” (what he thought the lyrics were).
He was dear to me, and I’m so sad to have to say good-bye to him.
I already miss him very much.

It was with profound sadness that I learned about Joe Pete's passing. I remember the day of the Master's Championships. I asked Joe Pete to be the starter for the event. He brought his shotgun. At the moment of the start, Joe Pete pulled the trigger and nothing happened. As the racers responded to "Go' one passed Joe Pete and said in a loud, loving voice, "Nice touch Joe Pete". Everyone loved Joe Pete. His humor will live in our hearts forever.

Big Joe Pete was a fun loving hoot of a personality. Most of all I remember how much he loved to laugh and have a great time ...a huge spirit with a big presence. Condolences to his boys and their families.

Joe Pete was such a cool guy. He was a good friend of my girlfriend Barbara. Back in 1981, there were a few gals that bobsledded. Joe Pete would come down to the track and take photos. We'd spend hours on that icy track along with Naj Wycoff. Then it was off to the Howard Johnson's hot tub, the cottage or the Woodshed. Those were the days ! A man who did it all with a kind heart.

Sorry to hear about the loss of my cousin Joe Pete. Had a nice conversation with him on the Tuesday before his passing. Tried to trade him a horse that didn’t look too good (horse was blind), he didn’t fall for it! Sorry we won’t be able to attend the service but our thoughts will be with entire family. RIP Joe Pete!

Brandy and all of Joe Pete’s family, I am so deeply sorry for your loss. The few years I spent working for Joe Pete were among my favorite times of my life. I have poured over pictures recently and fondly remembered what a lively, spirited, kind, fun, and generous man Joe Pete was while I was there. I plan to memorialize him here on our property by planting a tree in his memory. I attribute many good things in my life right now to the influence the Bark Eater and Joe Pete had.
