Obituary of Joan Butler Hallett Joan Butler Hallett, age 88, of Lake Placid passed away Wednesday, October 23, 2019 at Elderwood in Lake Placid. Joan was born November 20, 1930 in Richmond Hill, Queens NY. She was the daughter of Wilbur S. Butler and Helen McKeon Butler. She married Walter E. Hallett June 18, 1950 in St. Catherine of Siena Church in St. Albans, Queens NY. Joan was co-owner and operator of the Maple Leaf Motel and restaurant in Lake Placid, NY from 1969 to 1981. She was a member of the Garden Club of Lake Placid and was an EMT with the Lake Placid Volunteer Ambulance during the 1980 Winter Olympics. She was pre-deceased by her parents, Wilbur S. Butler and Helen McKeon Butler, her brother Wilbur Butler and her husband, Walter E. Hallett. She is survived by her children Debbie Strack and her husband Francis of Lake Placid, NY, Walter Hallett and his wife Judy of Lake O Lakes, FL, Joan Hallett-Valentine and her husband Patrick of Lake Placid, NY, Stacy Towers and her husband Brian of Huntington, VT; ten grandchildren, Timothy Hallett and his wife Amy of Grafton, WI, Bryan Hallett and his wife Zoe of Melrose, MA, Beth Sweet and her husband Travis of Lake Placid, NY, Kelly Loftis and her husband John of Ozark, MO, Frank Strack and his wife April of Lake Placid, NY, Carolyn and Catherine Valentine of Lake Placid, NY, Gabrielle LaForce and her husband Dillon of Hinesburg, VT, Gage Towers and his fiancée Meghan Guilmartin of Huntington, VT, Riley Towers of Huntington, VT. She is also survived by 12 great-grandchildren, Natalie, Benjamin and Lillian Hallett of Grafton, WI, Harper Strack of Lake Placid, NY, Emerson and Bennett Sweet of Lake Placid, NY, Myles Hallett of Melrose MA, Xavier, Abel and Noelle Loftis of Ozark, MO, Evangeline and Grayson LaForce of Hinesburg, NY. There are no calling hours. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, October 25th at North Elba Cemetery, Old Military Road, Lake Placid, NY with Pastor Richard Dukett officiating.
