Obituary of Albert George Gokey
Albert George Gokey, 94, of Rouses Point, NY, passed away on December 9, 2019 in Champlain, NY. He was born in Flint, Michigan on May 5, 1925 to George and Rose Gokey. He attended St. Mary’s Catholic School in Champlain, and later joined the Harris Corporation in Champlain as a machinist, and worked there for over forty years until his retirement in the 80’s. Albert was fortunate to travel extensively across the U.S.A. for Harris repairing and installing their machinery. He loved the numerous international trips that brought him to Italy, Germany, England, and Mexico. Albert always loved farming and worked on many area farms during his lifetime, up until his mid-eighties. He and wife Phyllis enjoyed friends, visits to see their grandchildren, church dinners and sitting on the porch and watching the traffic go by. Albert served in the U.S. Army and was a veteran of WWII having served in Germany in 1946/47. He was a volunteer fireman in Rouses Point and took pleasure working the garden in his backyard.
Albert is survived by sons Richard and his wife Sandra in Champlain, Robert and his wife Deborah in Roswell, GA, his sister Bernice Demers in Champlain, grandchildren Gregory Gokey in Scottsdale, AZ and Ashton Gokey in Atlanta, as well as many nieces and nephews in Clinton County, and GA and FL. Albert is predeceased by his wife Phyllis (Nutt), parents George and Rose, and siblings Carl, Leeward, Virginia, Genevieve, Bernice, Marie and Pauline.
Calling hours will be held at M. B. Clark Funeral Home, 148 Lake Street in Rouses Point from 1:00 – 4:00 PM on Sunday, December 15, 2019. A funeral Mass will be held at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church on Monday, December 16 at 11:00 AM with Father Lewis officiating. A family and friends reception with food and refreshments will follow at the Rouses Point American Legion on Pratt Street immediately following Mass.
