Obituary of Loretta Smith

Loretta Smith, age 92, of Lake Placid, NY died Thursday, January 24, 2013 at AMC-Uihlein Mercy Center of Lake Placid, NY. Mrs. Smith was born November 7, 1920 in Lyon Mountain, NY the daughter of Nelson and Rose (Prespare) Charland. She was predeceased by her husband, Arnold Smith in 1975. She had worked for 33 years at Placid Memorial Hospital, Lake Placid, NY as Manager in the Laundry Department. She loved playing Scat with her grandchildren, She volunteered her time at Placid Memorial Hospital and St. Agnes Church, helped deliver Meals on Wheels, and would help anybody who would ask of her to sell fund raising tickets or any other good cause. She is survived by three sons, Nelson Smith and his wife Kathy of Poland, NY, Philip Smith and his wife Francine of Tupper Lake, NY and Ellis Smith of Lake Placid, NY; one daughter, Beverly Martin of Jackson, NJ; eleven grandchildren, Mark Smith, Steven Smith, Kristen Smith, Natalie Smith, David Smith, Marcy Smith, Scott Martin and his wife Debbie, David Martin and his wife Sarah, Lori Massimino and her husband Anthony, Amy Baldwin and her husband Randy and Angie Cox and her husband Tim. She is also survived by eleven great grandchildren; four adopted great grandchildren ; four sister in law's, Joan Charland, Betty LaPoint, Gloria Charland, Rose Charland and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, her husband, twelve siblings, Valeda Benjamin, Rose Kavanaugh, Evelyn Collins, Arnold Charland, Shirley Demaris, Ronnie Charland, Leon Charland, Leo Charland, Floyd Charland, Richard Charland, Henry Charland and Willard Charland, and one son-in-law, Richard Martin. Calling hours will be Sunday, January 27th from 1 PM to 4 PM at M. B. Clark, Inc. Funeral Home, 2310 Saranac Ave., Lake Placid, NY. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:00 AM on Monday, January 28th at Saint Agnes Catholic Church, Saranac Ave., Lake Placid, NY with Father John Yonkovig officiating.
