Obituary of Erma Jean Haselton

Erma Jean Haselton "With a Song In My Heart" Erma left this earth to be with her Lord and to be reunited with her mother, Susan Mae Leasure; father, Arthur Leasure; and sister Elmira Householder, on Good Friday, April 10, 2020. Erma leaves behind her loving husband of 70 years, Charles E.; two sons, Daniel Charles and Samuel Arthur; two daughters, Pamela Sue and Beth Ann. Erma loved her daughters-in-law Carolyn, wife of Dan and Pam, wife of Sam; her sons-in-law, Fred Adames, husband of Beth, and Robert Gray, husband of Pam. Her twelve grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren were wonderful blessings that brought much happiness to Erma. Erma raised four children, taught Sunday School, directed the church choir, and served on the Lake Placid School Board for eighteen years (president during the 1980 Winter Olympics when ABC Sports used the school as their base of operations). We will miss her beautiful voice singing her favorite hymns and her wonderful way of offering advice and encouragement. Charles and Erma met at Eastern Nazarene College in the fall of 1947. Because Erma was late for chapel she was forced to sit next to Charles. Charles did not sing and Erma wondered how anyone could not respond to such music with singing. Charles and Erma were married on August 20, 1949, weathering storms and sharing happy times as a team, setting a wonderful example for their children and grandchildren. Erma and Charles were residents of Indian River Estates since 2015. A Graveside Prayer Service will be held Saturday, August 22nd at 2 PM, at the Haselton Cemetary, Haselton Road, Wilmington, New York. Rev. Grace Govenettio will officiate. Burial will follow where Erma's remains will be laid to rest next to Charles' parents. "With a Song In My Heart" will be inscribed on the headstone. The M.B. Clark, Inc.
