Obituary of Linda Sue Yelle

Linda Sue (Keener) Yelle, 59, died unexpectedly Monday, July 27, 2020 at her home in Chazy, NY. She was the wife of Harry P. Yelle. They had been together 38 years and just celebrated their 36th wedding anniversary on May 17, 2020. Linda was born Sept. 30, 1960 in Red Lion, PA. She was the daughter of Jay A. and Margaret E. Keener. She graduated from Red Lion High School in 1978 and was a legal secretary in a law office in York, PA. She served in the U.S. Army in Europe as a Military Police Person with the 194th MP Company, Heilbronn, Germany from 1981-1983 and is where she met her husband, Harry. They were married in Svenborg, Denmark and honeymooned on the Island of Malta. She worked for the U.S. government for the next 8 years in Germany. She received her BA in Management Studies, graduating Summa Cum Laude from the University of Maryland. Upon Harry’s retirement from the Army, they returned to the States in 1992 and she went to work at U.S. Customs and Border Protection, retiring in 2016 after 35 years of federal service. She also held many positions at the American Legion Post #912 in Rouses Point, NY, as well as being an active member of the Honor Guard. In addition to her husband, Linda is survived by her father, Jay A. Keener of Windsor, PA; 2 sisters, Cindy L. Christenberry (Joey) of Yoe, PA and Teresa L. Goodling (Jeff) of Dallastown, PA; 2 brothers, Craig A. Keener (Leona) of Mt. Joy, PA, and Blaine L. Keener (Julie) of Abingdon, MD. She is also survived by her step-children, Shana Bagherian (Massoud) of San Marcos, CA; Parrish Hammer (Kendra) of Seattle, WA; Ian Michael (Rebecca) of Colorado Springs, CO; and Karen Hammer Maikkula (Anthony) of Irmo, SC. She is also survived by 6 grandchildren. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews, and by her 2 beagles, Hope and Carlee who miss her dearly. She was preceded in death by her stepson Israel Hammer, grandson Ethan Hammer of Irmo, SC, and her mother Margaret E. Keener of PA. She also was predeceased by her beagle, Sneakers. Linda and Harry spent 38 years traveling Europe together and were devoted to each other. She will be sorely missed by everyone she touched. She was the love of Harry’s life, his best friend, and a total joy to be with. He will forever miss her dearly. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 374 Hess Farm Road in York, Pennsylvania on Sunday, Sept. 6, 2020 between 2:00 and 5:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, a memorial contribution can be made to Elmore’s SPCA, Peru, NY 12972 or a charity of your choice.
