Obituary of Horace D. Pratt

Horace D. Pratt Horace D. Pratt, of Polarity Way, Lake Placid, N.Y. Passed away at this home on October 9th, 2020 peacefully, surrounded by loved ones. Son of Horace A. and Gertrude Pratt, Horace was born in Lake Placid, NY on July 25th, 1931. He leaves his companion of 35 years, Claire M O'Connor of Lake Placid and daughter Susan E. Pratt of Petersburg, N.Y and his son Phillip S Pratt. In addition, he leaves behind Claire's daughter Ingrid Van Slyke of Lake Placid, her husband Paul and two grandchildren, Maris and Andrew as well as Helen Hagerty of Washington D.C and her six children. Brother Kent G. Pratt and his wife Janette of Lake Placid, sisters Joan Ormsby and Sandra and her husband Dale Daby of Lake Placid and several nieces and nephews. Horace is predeceased by his parents, his first wife Margaret K. Brinkman Pratt and brother Neil Pratt. Horace was a member of the Lake Placid Police for 29 years, 14 of which he served as the Chief of Police. He also served as a North Elba Town Justice for 14 years. Horace was a dedicated volunteer, serving High Peaks Hospice, the Lake Placid Fire Department, and the Lake Placid Ambulance Service. In 1976 he was the first president of the Lake Placid Volunteer Ambulance Service. Horace was a committed and loyal member of the Lake Placid Masonic Lodge No. 834 (Free and Accepted Masons) for 35 years and became a Master Mason in 1985. Horace will be greatly missed by family and friends. He loved being a member of the Lake Placid community, especially driving through town to make sure everyone was safe. He will be remembered for his kind heart, gentle soul and sense of humor. Calling hours will be held Monday, October 12th from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM. Due to Covid-19 occupancy restrictions, the Fire Department Prayer Service That will be held at 6:00 PM and the Masonic Lodge Prayer Service at 6:15 PM will be limited to family and invited guests only. Rev. John Yonkovig will hold a private family prayer service following the Masonic Prayer Service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Lake Placid Masonic Scholarship Fund, the Lake Placid Volunteer Fire Department, or the Lake Placid Volunteer Ambulance Service.
