Obituary of Geraldine D. Hayes

Geraldine D. Hayes, 86, formerly of Champlain, passed away on Saturday, December 19, 2020 at the Plattsburgh Nursing and Rehabilitation Center where she had been a resident for the past six years. Geraldine (Gerry as she was better known) was born in Mooers Forks, NY on June 28, 1934, the daughter of the late Joseph and Della (Manor) Cayea and lived in Champlain, NY for most of her life. She graduated from St. Mary’s Academy in 1953 and worked at Paquette’s Insurance Agency for over 25 years. She was an active member of St. Mary’s Church, a member of the Society of Saint Anne and taught religious education. Her community work involved being a member of the American Legion Auxiliary. Gerry was a cat lover and an avid reader, frequently patronizing the local library. Left to mourn Gerry are her sister, Marie Goodell of Connecticut, her brother, Stephen Cayea of Mooers Forks, NY, two nephews, Donald and Joseph of Connecticut, two nieces, Tricia of Arizona and Lori of Champain, three great-nephews, Donald Justin, Samuel and Zack and two great-nieces, Emilee and Sara. She was predeceased by her parents, her husband, Michael and brother-in-law, Donald Goodell. Due to the pandemic, there will be no calling hours. A graveside service is planned for the spring in St. Mary’s Cemetery. Donations in her memory may be made to St. Mary’s Church.
