Obituary of David Christian Kassen

David Christian Kassen, age 81, passed away peacefully on December 27, 2020 in his home while surrounded by loved ones in Lake Placid, NY. David was born on September 22, 1939 to Albert and Evelyn Kassen in Cincinnati, Ohio. He discovered his purpose early and lived his life exactly as he wanted. As a young boy he was drawn to the local Cincinnati racetrack, River Downs, where he'd sneak off to before school, and ultimately found his calling. David graduated from Anderson High School in 1958. He then took life by the reins quite literally and figuratively, first as a jockey for 12 years then as a trainer, traveling all over the country with his horses. In 1983 he married his wife, Bonnie Kassen, and together they raised a daughter, Jacqueline. When not with his horses, he enjoyed woodworking, golfing and loved listening to his favorite music on his stereo. He retired an accomplished and respected horseman after 60 years in the racing business. David was an admirable man. Not only as a loving father and husband, but for his remarkably genuine character and integrity that he'll always be remembered for. Also known to be determined and stubborn, he earned the nickname "Concrete", yet in the most endearing way. David was not just a good man, but a great man. Our hearts are full of beautiful memories in which he'll live on and be treasured forever. His legacy lives on in many ways. David was preceded in death by his father, Albert, his mother, Evelyn, and his brother, Doug. He is survived by his wife Bonnie, his daughter Jacqueline Belknap (James), his brothers Glenn (Linda), Barry and Jan (Lisa), and several nieces and nephews. A Memorial Service will be held May 18, 2021 at 12:00 PM at Churchill Downs, Stable Gate entrance, 3716 Oakdale Ave., Louisville, KY 40214. The M. B. Clark, Inc.
