Karen Clare Linney, 71, of Champlain, NY passed away unexpectedly at her home on January 7, 2021. She was born in Plattsburgh, NY to the late Clarence and Jeannette (Cayea) Benjamin on September 6, 1949. She graduated from Lyon Mountain High School in 1967 and worked in the X-ray department after graduating from CVPH School of Radiologic Technology. Karen was married on August 2, 1969. She took time to raise her family and was active in St. Mary’s Church and school. She returned to work at the FitzPatrick Cancer Center, where she treated patients until her retirement. Karen is survived by her loving husband of 51 years, Gerald Connors Linney of Champlain; daughter, Jeannette Georgiana Linney (Dayne K. Wood) of Plattsburgh; daughter, Lisa Linney Martin (Benjamin J. Martin) of Wallingford, CT; beloved granddaughter, Veda Kirsi Bingel of Plattsburgh; brother, David Benjamin (Lisa Benjamin) of Dannemora; brother-in-law, Jim Wood of Lyon Mountain; two nieces, Shelley Ann Wood (Christina Nellis) of Lyon Mountain and Olivia Benjamin of Dannemora. She is also survived by in-laws, John and Debbie Linney; in-laws, Bill and Cindy Linney; sister-in-law, Betty Lou Callahan Linney; sister-in-law, Evelyn Lanzo; sister-in-law, Dorothy Demar; brother-in-law, Bruce Patnode; in-laws, James and Patricia Connors; in-laws, Catherine and Francis Corbo; and in-laws Beverly and Ronald Baker. Karen is survived by several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews. Her cousin, Lisa Cross; and her Aunt, Mary Murtha, each had special bonds with her. Dear to her also, were the Carey families and the Chevalier family. Karen is preceded in death by her father, Clarence Benjamin; mother, Jeannette Miller (Benjamin); brother, Mark Benjamin; sister, Christine Wood (Benjamin); sister-in-law, Becki Spaulding; sister-in-law Jerri Jo Linney; brother-in-law, Angus Linney, brother-in-law, Robert Linney; in-laws, Jackie and Andy LaBarge; brother-in-law, John F. Connors; sister-in-law, Regina Peterson; brother-in-law, Ferdinand Lanzo; brother-in-law, Raymond DeMar; and sister-in-law, Vera Patnode. Karen enjoyed making people laugh and hearing of her family’s accomplishments. She enjoyed eating cinnamon candy, lighting a pine scented candle, covering up with a new quilt, doting on the many pets and grand pets in her life, recalling stories from her past, and watching wildlife out her windows (or Yankee baseball on TV). Most of all, she enjoyed her daily visits with Veda. Due to the pandemic, there will be no calling hours. A private service will be held at M. B. Clark Funeral Home. Subsequent services will be held at a later date in the summer. Arrangements are in the care of M. B. Clark Funeral Home in Champlain. Memorial donations may be made to Champlain Fire Department, 162 Elm Street, Champlain, NY 12919 or Elmore SPCA 556 Telegraph Road, Peru, NY 12972. The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the Champlain Fire Department EMTs and all who responded on the evening of the 7th.
