Condolences to Jim and John. I will never forget you two beauties and the Staleys greeting me when I came to pick up Mary for our 9th-grade prom. It seemed like all the upperclassmen from the lacrosse team were laying in wait. Homeroom with Mr. McDonald was always fun with Mary there. Her favorite saying was "rats on Republicans."This is just a quick memory of a lady I always respected, but lost track of. God speed Mary. You will always be happily remembered by many. Steve Sturtz

Tim, she was a great teacher and awesome person. No matter who you talk to and you say Mrs. Kelly, they just have such a smile on their face and the words of kindness that come from their heart's is truly amazing. She touched so many people's lives whether it was a student, fellow teacher, friend, fellow employee, parent, she had such wonderful loving methods of getting through to a child or anyone else for that matter. She will be missed dearly by all of Lake Placid... I hope this prayer helps in some way, know you and your family are loved by so many....
"I give you this one thought to keep-
I am with you still - I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow,
I am the diamond glints on snow,
I am the sunlight on ripened grain,
I am the gentle autumn rain.
When you awaken in the morning's hush,
I am the swift, uplifting rush
of quiet birds in circled flight.
I am the soft stars that shine at night.
Do not think of me as gone-
I am still with you - in each new dawn."

Loved the picture of Mary waving.. such a simple jester and yet such a wonderful memory of her! When we moved to Watertown in the late 50s we bought Mc Carthys home on Brainard Street. My parents were also from Auburn as were the Mc Carthys and it was just meant to be that we lived there!! Mary and I became childhood friends and as years past as they do we did lose track of each other.. The last time I saw her,John and Jim was at Kays calling hours at Cummings in Watertown. Mary lived a fantastic life and it is no surprise to me that she has such a loving family and so many friends. I share in your sorrow with a prayer and a smile of such wonderful memories. I had Mrs. Kelley for a elementary school teacher for two years in the early 1990's. I remember the birthday kisses she gave each student with fondness, as well as a rap-beat math game that she had her students play with a rubber ball - whoever grabbed the ball answered the math equation. The last time I saw her was for my wedding in September 2015. She will be missed very much.

Mary Kelley, you enriched the lives of everyone you came in contact with. I remember all the "double lipstick kisses" the girls received on their birthdays. You attended their 1st Communions at St. Agnes, and took them for ice cream at Hojo's when they got 10 bonus word perfect scores on their spelling tests (and you may have even bent the rules a bit when you knew a child tried hard and almost got there!). Mostly, I will always remember the smiles, laughs, and all encompassing love that you shared with everyone around you. God bless you Mrs. Kelley. Lake Placid was a special town because of you. and Heaven is a warmer and more loving place with you there. I know for sure that Jesus welcomed you with huge hugs and is so proud of you. Please let him know that we are too. Thank you.

My love and condolences to Tim, Guido, Caitlin and Dan. “Mrs. McKelley” was such a special person. Thank you for sharing her with all of us. Mrs. Kelley’s sense of humor was the best!! In elementary school a classmate and myself spotted her little yellow car at The Mirror Lake Inn. Foolishly, we knocked on the window while she was enjoying the hot tub, we then decided to soap her entire car windshield and leave. That Monday at school Mrs. Kelley called my friend and me to the office, there she stood with a water filled bucket and two sponges. She smiled as she handed them to us and ushered us outside. She had driven to school with a tiny spot to see out of and left the rest for us to clean. My other favorite memory was of Mrs. Kelley running in a marathon, I was standing at the end of the funeral home driveway waiting for her, as she approached I joined her and jogged with her to the finish line. After the race she took me out for ice cream, while all her girl friends went out for a beer! I will miss her giving me advice about my children, hearing her say “hi Clarkie”at Price Chopper, I will miss the magic birthday kisses, most of all I will miss her beautiful smile!!

To the Kelley Family,
Mary has a special place in our hearts. She was a wonderful, caring teacher to both our daughters Caitlin and Erin. Mary made our daughters and all her students feel special. I was fortunate to have worked with her at Lake Placid Elementary School for many years. Her laughter and smile was infectious. Mary really worked on bringing out the Irish in our family:)She shared our Irish heritage especially around St. Patricks Day. Mary encouraged creativity in our family especially Bill (as Mary called him Chuck) to create elaborate leprechaun traps which he shared with the school. We also enjoyed a few visits up to the camp up on the lake during boating on Lake Placid. She challenged our daughter Caitlin to improve waterskiing abilities as she said she would beat Caitlin on one ski!
We send our love and prayers to Tim and all of the family. Mary is truly remember as a special lady of Lake Placid.

My fondest and what feels like some of my only memories from elementary school are from 2nd grade with Mrs. Kelley. She taught us how to spell "camouflage" and as I typed that out, I spelled it just the way she taught (cam-o-u-flag-e). The HOJOs trips after acing spelling tests were my all time favorite. And the birthday kisses!!! Doing that little dance as she put on her bright red lipstick! Not only did she teach me but most of my aunts and uncles as well. She will be remembered as the true icon that she is. I had the pleasure of waiting on her, her husband and friends this summer outside at The Pub. To that day, she still called me "Marjorie Morningstar" like she had for the past 24 years, every time she saw me, without fail. My deepest condolences go out to the Kelley family. She will be missed, but she left such a wonderful impact on everyone

So very sorry in learning of your great loss. With sadness and heartbreak felt by so many; there’s also the joy and comfort that Mary gave from the heart to all who knew her; particularly her husband Tim and three children. Her unmistakable smile, laughter, and unmatched qualities of life she shared with everyone, defines the person she was. A superb wife, wonderful loving mom, and super grade school teacher, will always be remembered..never to be forgotten.
Mary has entered a safe, secure place when God opened His arms, welcoming her into His Kingdom, free from pain and agony she experienced the last few days of her life. If there were ever a champion of a human being..her name would be Mary Kelley!
Sad for her loss..but grateful to share her friendship over the years.

I remember every birthday Mrs. Kelley would sit you down in front of the class and bring out her BRIGHT RED lipstick and give you a big kiss on your cheek. However old you were is how many layers she would put on " and a one, and a two, and a three" it seemed the red only got brighter and brighter the more she continued. By the end of the month her lipstick would be so worn down in the middle lol.
Thank you for everything you have done for me!

My deepest condolences to Mrs Kelley’s family. We will miss our occasional price chopper visits. She was beautiful inside and out. I remember several years ago my daughter’s birthday was over spring break and she was so sad she didn’t get a Mrs Kelley lipstick kiss. A few days after my daughter’s birthday we saw Mrs Kelley at price chopper, my daughter told her she had just had her birthday. Mrs Kelley without hesitation took her lipstick out of her purse, did her birthday count and gave my daughter a perfect lipstick kiss on her cheek. I hope Mrs Kelley knew how much those lipstick kisses meant to everyone she blessed with one. She made my daughter’s day, that lipstick kiss stayed on her cheek for several days. She will be missed and remembered by so many people lives she touched.

Like many people who graduated from the Lake Placid School system, I could share many memories of Mrs. Kelley's bright red lipstick almost fully camouflaged by a blushing birthday boy or girl's smiling face. You didn't want to wash away a birthday kiss from Mrs. Kelley!
I remember one year at a school function she dressed up as a gypsy complete with a crystal ball. She sat me down and read my palm. What a surprise to hear that she knew Georgie Wilson was my crush.
She truly knew her students and watched us grow and fly off into the world. Once, when visiting LP I bumped into her at Price Chopper. We talked for a while, catching up on our lives as I walked her to her car and loaded her groceries.
I hope that today's students have teachers that are as caring and impressionable on their students as her. Attached is a Valentine card she gave me. Dated 1980.

Mrs. Mary Kelley, a teacher that gave so much to her students, including Birthday Kisses with freshly applied, bright red lipstick. Mary was forever their cheerleader, attending as many sporting events as she could. She always asked about them with sincerity when she saw their parents, many years after she had them in class.. My son was so lucky to be in her second grade class for her last year of teaching and what a great year it was. He and his classmates share their memories of the time in her classroom whenever they get together. They communicated with one another when hearing of her passing and again shared memories and also sincere sadness, they loved Mrs. Kelley!
The creator of “The Irish Mafia”, the successful trivia team that will carry on in her memory. Mary had the best laugh, the best answers and brought the best snacks for every event.
Mary was loved by everyone who had the fortunate opportunity to know her. She will be missed greatly.

I had the pleasure of having Mrs.Kelley as a teacher and to this day I always say I am so thankful. She was one of the kindest, most patient, and sweetest human beings you’ll ever meet. She made birthdays so special. However old you were turning she would take her red lip stick out of her desk.. count out your age and apply that many coats and give you a huge red kiss on the cheek. I hope everyone today puts on their red lip stick. She ALWAYS was smiling .. it got to the point where i questioned if it was normal to smile that much. My mom got home from work one day and i was laying on the ground smiling, when my mom asked what i was doing i had asked if Mrs. Kelly would still be smiling when she went to heaven .. it was her favorite story.. she even spoke about it when she gave the graduation speech in 2013. I saw Mrs.Kelly three years ago, it was our last encounter, and she re told that story. She says it’s something she will never forget. She even asked me to tell it at her funeral one day. I really wish i could. RIP Mrs.Kelly.. you will forever be missed. I pray for her family and my condolences go out to you.. and yes i know she is still smiling.
