Agnes Kendrick Reiss born August 9 1934 in Lake Placid NY died peacefully at home in Westport, CT, with her family by her side on May 18th 2021. She was diagnosed with dementia in her later years, which eventually led to the loss of her physical and cognitive abilities, but not her kind and happy spirit. With the help of her loving husband who never left her side she maintained her upbeat and positive outlook, always welcoming vistors with a smile and a song. After graduating from Lake Placid High School, she was discovered by the famous photographers Ozzie Sweet and Ruth Orkin. She then moved to NYC where she worked as a model for the Conover Modeling Agency. Agnes' pictures graced many magazines covers and advertisements. Sweetheart soaps, Yardley;s of London, Coca Cola, Ski NY, General Motors, and Ship and Shore Blouses. Agnes also worked at a reservation attending to the needs of an improvised indigenous community in Banff Alberta. Agnes loved to sing and dance, and was known to belt out a song and dance a jig at any moment. She enjoyed skiing and ice skating with her children and her grandchildren. In 1960 She married Peter G Reiss, also of Lake Placid NY at Saint Agnes Church in Lake Placid. They moved to Los Gatos California for 5 years before they settled in Westport CT to raise their family. Agnes was predeceased by her parents Addie (Martel) and Joseph Kendrick, and her loving daughter Agnes Mary. Her brothers Joseph and Jack Kendrick, sisters Ceceilia "Chummer" Savage, Terese Patnode, and Mary Pat Chase. Agnes is survived by her husband of 60 years, Peter Reiss of Westport CT, daughters Juliana Smith of Southport Ct and her children Whitney, James, and Christopher Smith. Jacqueline and husband Jimmy Bebon of Easton CT and their children, Agnes. James, Jack and Georgia Bebon and her son Peter J. Reiss and wife Aimee of Boulder Colorado, and their Children Layla and Scarlet, and many nieces and nephews. Agnes Rita Kendrick Reiss will be greatly missed by all her friends and family. A Graveside Service will be held in Lake Placid, NY on Saturday May 22nd at 2:30 PM at St. Agnes Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family is asking for a donation in her memory to The Alzheimer's Association at act.alz.org.
