Memories of Joe Kerigan
We first met Joe and the Kerigan family after moving back to Big Flats in the fall of 1985, when they also lived in the neighborhood. Our son Kyle and Katie were the same age, in the same class at Horseheads, and played soccer together, beginning around age 6. Joe & I coached their soccer team for several years, we were certainly not the best coaches, but did succeed in getting them to play together and have fun.
Over the next several years our families did a lot together, ranging from swimming in our backyard pool, River Rats (swim club) competitions, to boating on various lakes, Myrtle Beach vacations, to winter skiing, or just family get togethers.
In 1997 our older son Mike won a limo trip to a Buffalo Bills game against the Jets and Joe, being the good Samaritan, helped me chaperone our sons and a few of his friends on the trip. Below is a picture of Joe sitting in the back of the limo just chillin.
Due primarily to geography, we haven’t seen Joe and the family as much over the past 20 years, but we have visited one another a few times and cherish the great times we have had together.
Joe was always the life of the party and we will all miss him.

Spending time with Joe guaranteed a laugh, and many times learning something was included at no extra charge. Joe enjoyed getting into debates, but you better come prepared because he always knew what he was talking about - and he also knew enough not to talk too much about something that he wasn't knowledgeable about (though there wasn't a lot in this category). And boy did he know how to push your buttons, but it was always in good spirit when he did so. His wit and wisdom will be missed, as will he. RIP Joe, you were certainly one of the Good Ones.
