Ruth E. Tarlton



Ruth Elizabeth Tarlton, age 80, died on Saturday, October 2, 2021 at Adirondack Medical Center. Ruth was born in Ashland, PA, the only child of Ethelbert and Annamae Umlauf Tarton. Ruth grew up in Summit Hill, PA and often described herself as a "coal cracker from Pennsylvania". She attended East Stroudsburg University where she completed her studies to become a Registered Radiologic Technologist (X-Ray Tech). Ruth worked as an X-Ray technician for over 50 years at hospitals and health centers in Port Jervis, West Point and Syracuse, NY, and in Falmouth, MA. Upon retirement, Ruth moved to Lake Placid in 2006. She continued to be active with part-time positions at Kinney's in Lake Placid and at Lakeside House in Saranac Lake. She was an Associate of the Sisters of Mercy and a Friendship Volunteer with Mercy Care for the Adirondacks.


Ruth is survived by a cousin, Ruth Ann Derby Seip and her long-time friend, Sr. Catherine Cummings. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, October 6, at 10 am at St. Agnes Church in Lake Placid. Calling hours immediately precede the Mass at 9:30 – 10:00 am. Ruth will be buried with her parents in Skyview Memorial Cemetery in Hometown, PA. at a later date.
