Obituary of Nora Jean Mercaldi

Mrs. Nora Jean Mercaldi (St. Andrew) died with family by her side at UVM-CVPH Hospital on 24 November 2021 in Plattsburgh, NY at the age of 81. Nora is survived by her husband, Leonard Mercaldi Sr.; her children: Leonard Mercaldi, Jr. and his wife Laurie; Francis Mercaldi and wife Lori, Maria Canty and husband David, Peter Mercaldi and wife Jody, Christina Marks and husband Matt, Shawn Mercaldi and wife Natalie, her sister Carmalita Babbie and husband Gerald along with 15 grandchildren and 20 Great Grandchildren. Nora was born on October 2, 1940 in Plattsburgh to Francis St. Andrew and Edith St. Andrew (Baker). She married Leonard Mercaldi, Sr. (Sonny) from Beverly, Massachusetts in 1958 and a few years later moved to Massachusetts after Leonard’s return from serving in the Air Force in Okinawa. Nora soon found herself missing the country life and convinced her husband to move her and her first born back to Champlain (Perry’s Mills) where she grew up. Nora raised a family of six children being a loving wife and mother. She briefly worked at Ayerst Laboratories in Rouses Point and eventually settled into a position assembling perfume and cosmetics at Delagar Inc. in Rouses Point, NY. Anyone who knew Nora knew she loved playing bingo and had her share of wins. She was passionate about her flowers and spent her leisure time being an artistic painter and coin collector. Nora was an active and dedicated member of the St. Mary’s Church in Champlain for many years and sang with her husband in the Choir. Her love and faith for our Lord and Mother Mary were immeasurable as so many knew. We can only hope to aspire to anything with the dedication and faith she possessed in a heavenly afterlife. A wake is scheduled for Sunday, November 28 from 5 PM – 7 PM at M. B. Clark Funeral Home in Champlain, NY. A funeral service is scheduled for 11:00 AM, Monday November 29 at the St. Mary’s Church in Champlain followed by the burial with no reception to follow.
