Champlain - Alice M. Thompson, 51, passed away at UVM-CVPH on December 5, 2021 after a long and courageous battle with cancer.
Alice was born at UVM-CVPH on November 14, 1970, the daughter of Richard and Alfreda (Mesick) Miller.
Alice attended Northern Adirondack Central School, graduating in 1988. Her early careers found her working for the Head Start Program at NAC, working as a certified cosmetologist, and working at Alice Hyde Medical Center in Malone, NY as a certified phlebotomist.
In 2003, Alice found her true passion to serve her community. She joined the Ellenburg Center Fire Department and became a certified Emergency Medical Technician. She began working for the Village of Dannemora EMS in 2005 and became certified as an Advanced Emergency Medical Technician-Critical Care in 2006. She worked for Dannemora/Saranac EMS for 14 years, serving as an EMS Supervisor. In 2007, Alice moved to Champlain and joined Champlain-Mooers EMS and the Champlain Fire Department as a volunteer. Alice loved the world of Emergency Services, and was a highly respected EMS provider in Clinton County.
Alice loved spending time with her family. Alice looked forward to summers at Twin Ells where she could relax and enjoy with friends and family around the campfire. Alice loved to travel, taking trips to the Outer Banks, Myrtle Beach, cruises to Bermuda and the Caribbean, many trips to NYC including over 20 Broadway shows, camping trips to Old Forge, and many trips to Florida. Her final birthday weekend with “the girls” to Akwasasne Mohawk Casino will remain one of the greatest memories of her life.
Alice will be remembered as a person who put others ahead of herself. Her service and sacrifice to Emergency Services in Clinton County will never be forgotten. The family wishes to thank all of her fellow brothers and sisters in Fire & EMS who served alongside of her, keeping her safe, and giving her a sense of purpose and pride. The family also wishes to thank the many wonderful nurses and doctors at UVM-CVPH, UVM-Burlington, Fitzpatrick Cancer Center, and Brigham & Women’s in Boston who cared for her over these last five years.
Alice is survived by her loving husband Cory Thompson of Champlain, NY; her parents Richard and Alfreda Miller from West Chazy, NY; a daughter Danielle Miller from Schenectady, NY; a granddaughter Aubree Finlayson from Champlain, NY; granddaughters Arabella & Amara from Schenectady, NY; brothers Richard Miller Jr. from Ellenburg Center, NY; Scott (Merrie) Miller from Mooers Forks, NY; Sam (Tammy) Miller from West Chazy, NY; sisters Mary (James) Laduke from Dannemora, NY; Sallie (William “Bo”) Patnode from Ellenburg Center, NY; Sarah Smith from Chazy, NY; along with his several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
