Lake Placid, NY Jack Stouffer, aged 90, passed away surrounded by his family on December 5, 2021. Jack was born on May 31, 1931 in Cumberland, MD to Lora Pearl Lybarger and Edward W. Stouffer. A graduate of Hyndman High School, he went on to receive a B.A. from Gettysburg College and a Masters of Divinity from the United Lutheran Seminary in Gettysburg. As an ordained minister in the Lutheran Church of America and the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America, he served congregations in Goldsborough, Etters and Bedford County, PA, as well as in Los Angeles CA. Jack finished his career as chaplain at the Lutheran Medical Center in Brooklyn, New York after having served as Assistant to the Bishop of the Metropolitan New York Synod. Throughout his career, Jack worked to promote fellowship within his congregations and to realize the mission of the church as a servant to the broader community. While in Bedford County, he worked with others to promote delivery of the Johnson Great Society anti-poverty programs for county residents in need. In his role as Assistant to the Bishop he worked to resolve conflicts within congregations and as Chaplain at the Lutheran Medical Center he reached out to both Lutheran and other communities of faith to develop a parish nurse program. At the height of the AIDS, crisis he ministered to the sick and helped congregations organize support services for people living with AIDS. Jack and his wife, Nancy, were life-long advocates for social justice, strongly believed in tolerance and equal rights for all and had a gift for connecting with people. He and Nancy were avid hikers and instilled a love of the outdoors in their children and grandchildren. Jack is survived by son John Stouffer (Andrea Lain), Daughter Suzanne Piacentini (Vero) and his pride and joy grandchildren, Sam Stouffer, Emma Stouffer and Isaac Stouffer. Timothy Piacentini, Ava Piacentini He was predeceased by his spouse Nancy Ruth Long and his six siblings, Lottie Bockhouse, Anna Kight, Harvey Stouffer, Web Stouffer, Hetty Dull and Frank Stouffer.
