Obituary of Connie Preston
Please share a memory of Connie to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Constance "Connie" Jacques Preston, age 91, peacefully passed away at home December 10, 2021 surrounded by her loving children and grandchildren. Connie was born July 2, 1930 in Saranac Lake to Donald and Charlotte Wilson Jacques.
She was the oldest of seven children and was kept busy helping care for her siblings who she said always managed to get in some trouble. She graduated from Lake Placid High School - class of 1948. Connie married Oren Preston on November 7, 1953. They enjoyed 61 wonderful years together until Oren's death in 2014. She was employed by New York Telephone Company, Dunn's Gift Shop and as a companion to Mrs. Hilda Taylor until she found her favorite job - caring for the babies in the nursery of the Lake Placid Community Day Care Center. There she spent over 10 years rocking and loving babies. Connie was active in her community; serving as President of the Lake Placid High School Alumni Association, volunteering with the Pee Wee Association and as District Deputy Grand Matron of the Order of the Eastern Star. She was a life-long member of the Adirondack Community Church where she served in many capacities. Connie was sure to be found in the church kitchen for countless chicken and biscuit dinners. In 1998 Connie and Oren traveled to Appalachia to volunteer at the Red Bird Mission. With seven children, there were always school plays, bake sales, field trips and events to keep her busy. First and foremost, Connie was a loving and dedicated mother and grandmother. She loved cooking the big holiday meals and the little after school snacks for whoever showed up. She never missed a game or a concert. Her grandchildren were blessed to have her at graduations and weddings. She loved caring for their Greenwood Street home and her hydrangeas. Connie never minded doing all the laundry brought home by children and grandchildren. She actually loved ironing! The door was always open and the coffee and cookies always ready.
Connie's loving family includes children Linda Jones, Rhonda, Steve and Linda, Randy, Oren (O.B.) and Kristin, Alyson and Junior Thompson and Juli and John Frost - Gonzales. Connie dearly loved her role as grandmother and great grandmother to Paul and Brooke Jones and their children Charlotte, Virginia Francis and Teddy; Andrew and Hina Jones and daughter Aiza; Lindsay and Zach Hansen and their children Sydney and Henry; Kate and Katie DiFranco Preston, Tim; Ryan, Logan and his daughter Heavenleigh, Keegan and Michelle; Kyle, Oren; Ayla, Haile, Nzoni and Makeda Thompson; Ashley, Ian and Jaclyn Frost. Constance is also survived by sisters Janet Clark, Virginia Warrington and June Preston as well as sister-in-laws Dorothy (Hyler) Gray, Joanne Preston and Joyce Jacques. Surviving brother-in-laws are Bernie Preston (Marie) and Fred Reid. She will be remembered by many cousins, nieces and nephews who will surely miss Aunt Connie. She would want us to mention her very dear, longtime friends, Bill and Gail Kissel and their children. Constance was predeceased by her siblings Donald, Ellis and Betty, son -in-law Jack Frost and grandson Alexander Frost as well as brother - in- laws Paul, Red, Robert, Raymond and his wife Dorothy Preston, sister-in-law Leona Preston and several nieces and nephews.
