Obituary of Hung Mi Hayes

Hung Mi (Mija) Yoo Hayes, 83 years, passed away on Monday, December 20, 2021 at Adirondack Health in Saranac Lake, New York. Mija was born October 10, 1938 in North Korea. She migrated to South Korea in the late 1950's with her sister, to start a new life there. While in Korea, she met Gregory (Bucky) Hayes while he was stationed in Korea with the US Army. They married on February 26, 1964, and she returned to the states with him. After living for a brief time in Bloomingdale, NY, they moved to Lake Placid in 1972 to raise their sons. Mija worked for several years at the Lake Placid Club and the Lake Placid Hilton. She enjoyed watching her sons play hockey, and providing meals to all of their friends when they were at the house playing ball hockey or baseball. Mija always made sure no one left her house hungry. Her family was the most important thing to her, she loved being a mom and grandmother. She is survived by her husband, Gregory (Bucky) Hayes, of 57 years. They were inseparable the last several years, enjoying retirement. She is also survived by her sons, Greg (Carol) of Lake Placid, Dean Hayes of Saranac Lake, and Dale (Jennifer) of Lake Placid. Her grandchildren were her pride and joy, Brady (Makenzie), Serina (Zack), Chase (Alyssa), Colin (Mira), Aubrey and Owen, all of Lake Placid. She is also survived by her sisters-in-law; Gwenn Bombard and Lynn Owre, and cousin Sandy Hayes. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews and great nephews. There will be no calling hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated on Thursday, December 23, 2021, at 11:00am at the St. Agnes Church. Rev. John Yonkovig will officiate. Burial will be in North Elba Cemetery in May.
