Obituary of Margaret (Peg) Spiegel

Please share a memory of Margaret to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
It is with both sadness and joy that we, the children of Margaret (Peg) Neverett Spiegel Edwards has passed into the arms of the Lord to whom she was so reverently devoted. She spent almost her entire lifetime attending daily Mass. Often times, for the 7:00am Mass she wore her raincoat over her pajamas. Only the Lord knew! Peg was born on November 1,1926 (All Saints Day we were regularly told) to Edith and Harry Neverett in Chazy, New York. It was there that she and her siblings were raised with cows in their blood and farming in their hearts. Her father, H.L. Neverett, was a very well-known cattle dealer and stocked multitudes of North Country farms when farming was the backbone of our communities. Peg was a bookkeeper for the firm for many years. Peg was one of the first boarding students at Saint Marys Academy in Champlain and went on to Plattsburgh State College. She was very community oriented and was elected and re-elected to the office of Chazy Town Clerk several times. A major heartbreak in her life was the loss of her sister Helen (Red) Trombly to a tragic house fire. She found solace in God. She had three brothers, Robert, William, and Francis that predeceased her. They were a very tightly knit family that spent Sunday mornings for many years, gathered at the family homestead after mass to talk, of course, about cows! Peg married Stanley (Stub) Spiegel in 1947 and they began their family which consisted of Arthur (Meg), Skye (Nate), and Staub (Angela). Then came 7 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren. Life was good. In 1984, Stanley passed away. After several years, at the grand age of 82, Peg married a wonderful and caring gentleman in Dr. Jon Edwards. Together Peg and John traveled the Chazy Landing to North Carolina and Florida route for several years. Not many good restaurants were missed along the way. John passed away in 2016 and Peg missed him a great deal. Considering Covid and the prevailing North Country weather, we have decided it best to postpone services and a celebration of life until there are better conditions for her friends to attend. God and our love is with her.
