Obituary of Laura B. Pelkey

Rouses Point, NY - Laura Pelkey passed away at her home April 15, 2022 at 85 years of age. She was born in Champlain, NY on May 26, 1936, daughter of Grover and Elsie (Mussen) Ashline. She attended Champlain High School, graduating with the class of 1954. Laura married Gerald Pelkey in 1956 and they lived in Germany while he served in the U.S. Air Force. Upon their return, they resided in Rouses Point where they raised six children. Laura held various jobs, including at F.W. Myers & Co. and UPS. She was appreciated by her co-workers for her outgoing, lively personality and sense of fun. Laura was happiest surrounded by family and friends. She had a youthful, light-hearted attitude and was fun to be around. She was a long-time, avid Boston Red Sox fan and for years proudly flew their flag in her front yard. She also followed college basketball with a passion and was a loyal Duke fan. She is survived by four children; Gerald (Bonnie) Pelkey, Donna (Jacques) Giroux, Marty (Laurie) Pelkey and Barbara (Donald) Guay. She also leaves behind two sisters; Dorothy Gibson and Gloria Ashline; six grandchildren; Ryan Bahry, Alexandra Bahry, Mathew Pelkey, Meagan Pelkey, Hilary Converse and Cameron Hurlburt, as well as three great grandchildren; Carter Baxter, Maeve Baxter and Max Converse along with many nieces, nephews and friends. She was predeceased by her parents; her husband Gerald; two children Linda Pelkey Bahry and Dean Pelkey and son-in-law Gordon Hurlburt. She was also predeceased by siblings: Gerald Ashline, Elizabeth Mary Ashline, Adeline Barnes, Helen Root and Veronica Gonyo. A funeral Mass will be held on Thursday April 21, 2022 at 11:00 AM at St. Patrick’s Church in Rouses Point. Burial will take place at St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Coopersville at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Rouses Point Fire Department. Laura will continue to live on in the hearts of the many who loved her.
