Sheryle Anne Harris, 60, a longtime resident of Fishkill, NY, passed away on Friday, May 20, 2022 at St. Luke’s Hospital in Newburgh, NY. Sheryle was the Clinical Education Specialist at Castle Point VA Medical Center in Wappinger Falls, NY for the last six years, and had over 36 years of dedicated service to the VA Hudson Valley Health Care System. Born on December 27, 1961 in Keene Valley, NY, she was the daughter of the late John W. and Shirley A. (Cave) Harris. Sheryle was a graduate of Millbrook High School class of 1980. She received a LPN license from BOCES and later her Registered Nurse Certification from Albany Medical Center School of Nursing. In 1985, Sheryle graduated from SUNY Institute of Technology with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN). In 1994, she graduated Pace University receiving a Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) specializing in Adult Health. She was a member of the Association of Rehabilitation Nurses (CRRN). Sheryle began her career as a staff nurse in Spinal Cord Injury (SCI) rehab and surgical intervention to repair pressure ulcers. She later moved into educating staff in SCI, then to all employee education at Castle Point. Sheryle was the former Clinical Education Supervisor/Manager at the VA Hudson Valley Health Care System. Sheryle had the honor and privilege of caring for our nation’s heroes, their families, and their caregivers. She would often speak about how she was inspired by the strength and courage of our Veterans. This inspiration encouraged Sheryle through her nursing journey. As she advanced her nursing career, Sheryle believed in giving back to her profession as a nurse educator. She exemplified what it is to be a career nursing professional and touched the lives of the clinical staff she worked with. Sheryle was also very engaged in her community as an active member of the Red Hat Society, Nurses’ House, Nurses Association, and local schools to promote the nursing profession. Sheryle is survived by a sister, Lisa Baruffo and her husband, Thomas Jr., of Wingdale, NY and a brother, Scott Harris of Hyde Park, NY. She is also survived by her three nieces Kayla Baruffo, Jessica Redahan and Nicole Harris; a nephew, Thomas Baruffo, III; great-nephews, Rhys Duncan, Ryan Redahan and Caiden Redahan; and her beloved dog, Nixie. In addition to her parents, Sheryle was predeceased by a sister, Charlene Marie Harris. Calling hours will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. on Sunday, June 12, 2022 at the Hufcut Funeral Home, 3159 Route 22, Dover Plains, NY. A memorial service will follow at 3 p.m. at the funeral home with Rev. Thom Fiet officiating. Burial will be private at North Elba Cemetery, in Lake Placid, NY. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to: Castle Point, VA Hudson Valley HCS, Attention: Voluntary Services, 41 Castle Point Road, Wappinger Falls NY 12590. The M. B. Clark, Inc.
