Obituary of Joan Tuomey Reiss

Joan Tuomey Reiss age 93 of 35 Essex Street, Lake Placid, NY completed her journey to heaven October 21, 2022, surrounded by her loving family.Joan Reiss born in Chicago Heights Illinois to John Sylvester Tuomey and Kathryn Dougherty grew up in New York City graduating from both Marymount School in New York City and Marymount College in Terrytown NY.  She married the love of her life, Robert Raymond Reiss and eventually moved to Lake Placid, NY and raised her family as a loving mother of Robert Reiss Jr, Andrew Reiss and Kathryn Reiss-Hathaway.  She spent 8 years as a Girl Scout leader, President of the Lake Placid Hospital Auxiliary for 4 years, a member of the Rosary and Altar Society, and served on the St. Agnes Church board for 2 terms, volunteered for the Ecumenical Food Pantry, and was one of the only 2 finalists that finished a 50-mile swim over 3 months in 1981 to support the Red Cross.  She was a buyer for High Falls Gorge in Wilmington, NY, an avid tennis player and a graduate of the Offshore Sailing School in New York.Joan Reiss is survived by her son Robert Raymond Reiss, Jr. of Franklin Park NJ, his spouse and their family, son Andrew Reiss, of Nashville TN, his wife and their family, daughter Kathryn Reiss-Hathaway of Lake Placid, her spouse and their family.  She is a proud grandmother of 6: Robert Reiss III, AJ Reiss, Chelsea Abrams, Joel Silver, Jacob and Sierra Reiss.  Joan is also a great grandmother of 3: Ivy, and Ashton Abrams and Joycelyn Reiss.She is predeceased by her loving parents John and Kathryn Tuomey, her cherished husband Robert Reiss, and her sweet grandson Robert Reiss IIICalling hours are 6 pm – 8 pm Sunday October 23 at the M. B. Clark, Inc. Funeral Home, Saranac Ave, Lake Placid, NY with a Catholic Funeral Mass at St. Agnes Church Monday October 24 at 11 am by officiant Father John Yonkovig.  Interment to follow at the St. Agnes Cemetery.The family requests in lieu of flowers please donate to the High Peaks Hospice or the Robert R. Reiss Community Treatment Center at St. Joseph’s Addiction Treatment and Recovery Center, Saranac Lake NY.
