Obituary of Bennette L. Grant

In loving memory of our mother, Bennette Grant (Herne), a member of the Wolf Clan of the Saint Regis Mohawk Tribe, who passed away on February 21, 2023. Her parents were Delores Herne (Jock), who passed away in 2009, and Joseph R. Herne, who passed away in 2008. She was widowed by her husband James (Robert) Grant in 1997. Our mother was a kind, caring and giving person who always put the needs of her family before her own. She was a strong woman who faced every challenge in her life with courage and dignity. Our mother was a source of inspiration to us all and she will be deeply missed by everyone whose lives she touched. Growing up, Bennette was always there for us, whether we needed someone to talk to or just a shoulder to cry on. She was a woman of strong faith, and she instilled in us the importance of family, hard work and doing what is right. Our mother was a true role model who we will always look up to. She is survived by her daughter Bethany Grant and her son Neil Grant and his wife Abrianna, as well as her brothers and sisters: Robert and Alda Herne, Brian and Patt Herne, Barry and Darlene Herne, Belson and Theresia Herne, Brenda Johnston, Belinda and Vernon White, Bernadine Herne, Briana and Phillip White, Benjamin Herne, and several neices and nephews, as well as her grandchildren: Haley, Hudson and Kateri. A funeral service will be held at M. B. Clark Funeral Home, 148 Lake Street Rouses Point, NY on Friday, February 24 from 2:00 – 4:00 PM. Burial will take place in the spring of 2023 in Akwesasne, NY. Donations may be made to the family to assist funeral expenses. Flower orders are best delivered to the Rouses Point Funeral Home. Mother, you will always be in our hearts, and we will never forget you. We love you so much. Rest in peace.
