Obituary of Richard Alan Hare

Richard Alan Hare, 79, of Lake Placid peacefully passed away in the early morning hours of April 20, 2023 surrounded by love. He was born April 25, 1943 in Lake Placid, New York to Clearance and Violet (Bruce) Hare. He graduated from Lake Placid High School, class of 1963. Richard worked for the Town of North Elba for many years as a grave digger and was also a locksmith. He was a member of the SAL Post 326 of Lake Placid, New York. Richard enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren; along with his caretaker of many years, Ashley Barber, and her family. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping and especially bird watching. In his free time you could find him tinkering and fixing computers. He loved stopping at the local diners for his cup of coffee and good conversations. He would also be seen cruising Bikini Boulevard in his power chair. He was a very kind and caring person who was willing to help anyone he could, he lived a very full and happy life. Richard is survived by his daughter Christine (Hare) and her husband William Strack of Ellenburg Depot, Son Matthew Hare and his spouse of Massena. His six grandchildren William Strack II of Saranac Lake, Breanna Strack of Tupper Lake, Shania Strack of Ellenburg Depot, Faith Hare, Noah Hare and Matthew Hare Jr. of Massena. His four great-grandchildren Madilyn and Allisyn Mandigo of Tupper Lake, Lillian and William Strack III of Saranac Lake. Along with his brother George Hare of Florida and many nieces and nephews. Richard was predeceased by his parents Clearance and Violet along with his son David Hare, first wife Carolyn and second wife Marlene. His brothers and sisters Bruce, Bud, Tommy, Clearance, Judy, Joyce, MaryJane, Connie, Carol and Bet Bet. Richard was a very loved man who made a huge impact on so many people. He will be greatly missed by many. Calling hours will be held Friday May 5th from 5:00 PM to 6:00 PM followed by a prayer Service at 6:00 PM at M. B. Clark, Funeral Home in Lake Placid. Rev. Derek Hansen, Pastor of the Adirondack Community Church will officiate. The family asks that you dress comfortably and wear your jeans, as that's what Richard would want.
