I am stunned and can not believe you are gone. I will miss all the discussions about life and teaching. I see your expressions during the various choir trips and performances. The summer expeditions to see you and your mom in LP. Even the trip to the opera to hear a former student. The Thanksgiving meals with family because you and your mom are family. I keep telling myself this isn’t happening. You were an amazing teacher and friend Michelle Speckmann. I’m giving you a hug from the earthly plane ❤️

Michelle and I were friends at The College of Saint Rose. We had classes together and lived in Fontbonne Hall together sophomore year. I have so many memories of her trying not to laugh at my silly stories or goofy ideas. She always wanted to hold it together. Speck was so thoughtful. She handmade Christmas gifts for me that I will continue to cherish. My family visited the motel when we skiid in Lake Placid. Michelle and I had not seen each other in over 20 years, but we kept up with each other's lives on Facebook. I am sad that she was taken from us so soon, but thankful for the memories. I hope her family is able to find peace in the memories as well. May she rest in peace knowing she will be missed by so many people that she touched.

This is a picture of Michelle and my daughter, Brynnley, taken two summers ago at Marianne’s house in Lake Placid. Michelle was one of my best friends. We worked closely together at Southwest Middle School for many years and stayed close even after she left. She loved Brynnley, and as you can see in the picture, Brynnley just adored Michelle.
The world will be less without my friend in it. I am so sorry, Marianne. I can’t even imagine what you are going through. I pray you find some comfort in the life she led, the people she touched, the love she left in the world.

I met Michelle in August when she came to Atkins. We shared an office and soon became good friends. I am an EC Teacher and we shared many conversations about our students. One thing about Michelle that was obvious right away was her dedication to her students and the time she spent working on material to help each individual need. She often spent time after school making sure her students were on the bus, or in afterschool tutoring. She also stayed after school to attend sports events. I learned a lot from her about technology. I left school at the end of May for knee surgery and when I left I said, " have a great summer and see you in the fall". Little did I know that was the last time I would see her. I was shocked to hear the news about her passing. I am very sad that she will not be with me at Atkins this fall. I will miss her very much. My thoughts and prayers are with her mom and all her family and friends.

Michelle was one of a kind. She had the biggest heart of anyone I have known but she wanted everyone to think she was uncaring and tough. She was a true professional and loved her students beyond measure! She was always on time, prepared, and kept candy for all those who needed a treat! She will truly be missed!

I had a wonderful time with Michelle, in the summertime as we'd swim, play jump rope, and learn new tricks on the trampoline at her motel!
I was deeply saddened to hear of her recent passing. I'd always enjoy getting to chat when we both would be visiting our hometown in the summertime!
I'm praying for your family, Maryann, that God would hold you closely and comfort you.
With love and prayers,

Very saddened by Michelle's passing. I count it as an honor to have taught with her at Western Rockingham Middle School. In over 30 years of teaching, I never came across a stronger or more persuasive advocate for her students. Certainly, she enriched the lives of many. We lost a good one way too soon. My thoughts and prayers are with Michelle's family.

Michelle was a wonderful friend. I met her while she and I were working at Central Elementary School. Michelle and I quickly became friends. She would visit my sister after she was diagnosed with breast cancer and helped me through her death. Michelle was also in our wedding and became close with my entire family. I went to visit Omi with her in Florida and visited her in Lake Placid when I was pregnant with our first child. I have such wonderful memories with Michelle, Merrianne and Ed. Michelle was a wonderful teacher and friend and I am going to miss her dearly.

I was blessed to work with Michelle at Western Rockingham Middle School. We talked frequently and more recently joined me in working for WSFCS. Michelle had a quick wit and funny sense of humor that I’ll always remember. She loved going home and sharing stories from her childhood. She loved and advocated for kids! Loved her!!

Michelle was so smart, she enriched the lives of children and fellow teachers. She was always ready to lend a helping hand and always said yes to help.
She taught me so much about technology and helped me when I needed it most.

I am deeply saddened to hear of the sudden passing of Michelle. It is hard to find the words to truly express the sorrow I feel for Michelle's family. As a fellow LPHS graduate of 1991, I can recall many memories we shared as children growing up in lake placid, and spending our summer school vacations swimming in her family's pool. We rode our bikes together all over the village, and that is some of my favorite childhood days. While we grew apart as adults, I was aware of her dedication to being a teacher and the commitment she made to her work and students. She will be dearly missed. Please accept my deepest condolences, and may the passage of time bring the family, friends, co-workers, and students comfort and healing. Rest in peace Michelle, and God Bless. -Susan

Michelle and I worked together several years ago at Home Depot. We shared a lot of laughs. I nicknamed her “Punk”… she called me “Dork”. We stayed in touch throughout the years and I had just communicated with her back in June. I am so saddened and still in shock that she is no longer with us. My sincere condolences to “Mama M” (that’s what I called her mom) and the rest of her family. Prayers to you all at this terribly sad time. This is a loss that many are feeling and mourning with you. May God give you peace and comfort.
