Obituary of William Donald Wylie

William "Bill" Wylie age 68, of Lake Placid, NY succumbed to lymphoma at his home surrounded by his family on May 13, 2013. Bill was born the son of Alvin Wylie and May Harte of Constable NY on June 23, 1944. He served in the US Army from June of 1961 until June 1964 and remained in the reserves until 1967. He was a proud member of the Big Red One Armory Unit, was listed as a sharpshooter in rifles and MG's and a marksman in pistols and carbines as well. He was last stationed in Fort Riley Kansas. After serving his country Bill was employed at his brother Arnie's service station in Lake Placid NY until he moved to Nebraska and married his wife Judy of 42 years on May 8th, 1971. Upon returning to Lake Placid in July of 1972 he was employed with Don Wilford as a body and fender repair technician, a taxi driver for Clarence Hinckley, a maintenance worker for the Lake Placid Club and finally retired from the Town of North Elba as a heavy equipment operator in June of 2001 due to a medical disability retirement. He spent his retirement time doing what he loved the most spending days at his hunting camp and spending time with his family and grandchildren. Bill is survived by his wife Judy, two step children and two sons: Donald and Corey Wylie, one daughter in law (Donald's wife) Denise Wylie and Corey's girlfriend Kristin Beaney, he is predeceased by two brothers: Arnie Wylie of Lake Placid and Wayne Wylie of Cadyville, two sisters: Shirley Wylie of Willsboro and Rita Mcelwain, one brother in law Jerry Mcelwain of Malone, two sister in laws: Linda Colgrove of Auburn Nebraska, Barb Wylie of Lake Placid and several nieces and nephews, six grandchildren: Dillon Wylie, Nicole Wylie and her fianc Mario Gonzalez, Cole Wylie and Lily Beaney all of Lake Placid and Molly Sue and Isabella Wylie of Malone. A memorial service will be held at M. B. Clark, Inc. Funeral Home, Lake Placid, NY on Thursday May 23, 2013 at 3:00 PM. Rev. John Yonkovig will officiate. Burial will follow at North Elba Cemetery. Donations can be made to the American Cancer Society Hope Lodge at 237 East Avenue, Burlington, VT, 05401-3438.
