It brought me joy to meet Ben outside our homes often since we grew up as neighbors. He was indeed a dedicated flirt. I feel grateful to have shared many moments with Ben, hearing stories and updates, learning about Presidents, and being silly. I hope to always remember his genuine smile, voice, and warm spirit. Thank you for being my sweet neighbor. I will miss you. Rest peacefully. Love, Beatrice S

Ben was a special young man who brought joy to those around him. Although life was challenging for him and his family his spirit persisted. We have very funny memories of his love for presidents, morbid details, and love of certain characters. Colleen enjoyed the moments in speech she shared with him. Our family has memories of silly stories about Ben and his adventures with his family. A memory for our family is when Ben did the mini tri with Caitlin and got lost around Mirror Lake. We will certainly miss his "known" presence in Lake Placid. He was a very lucky young man to have grown up with incredibly supportive parents and brothers. Ben will be missed , but are relieved that he does not have to deal with his health battles. Love always, Bill, Colleen, Caitlin and Erin Skufca

I am so very sorry to hear of Ben’s passing. When I think of the times I crossed paths with Ben, I can see his wonderful smile and hear his laugh every time. What a wonderful thing to honor Ben and his community ties, by offering a scholarship. You are in my thoughts and prayers! God Bless! Laura Clark

I had the pleasure of working with Ben when he was twelve. He was extremely tolerant of my limitations as a companion as I walked and he ran around John Brown’s fields, exercised in the St. Agnes School gym, and played on the computer. He delighted in sharing his knowledge of the Presidents and his enthusiasm was contagious. He was a beautiful, energetic, and sensitive boy and I enjoyed our times together. Ben had such a great spirit and cheerful nature. His charm was irresistible. I send my deepest sympathy to his wonderful and loving family. - Kathy Miner

My sadness for the Baird family is immense. Ben's was always a boisterous greeting in the halls of the high school, outside the grocery store, or in the bookstore. Ben had a lot of lessons to teach us, if only we would pay attention. In the Jewish tradition, "May his memory be a blessing". And as difficult as it was at times, his life already was.

We mourn the loss of our beloved friend, Benjamin. His thoughtful spirit and intelligent mind brought laughter to us all with his playful proposals filled with a big smile and contagious laughter. His kindness resonated through every story he shared, touching every heart in this town. A truly gentle soul whose presence shall be profoundly missed by us all. As Heaven welcomes a magnificent angel, may God grant him eternal peace.
