Herbert Carl Jones, 84, of Rouses Point died Sunday, October 8, 2023 at his home. He was born in Norfolk, NY, the eldest child of the late Ralph William and Eunice Mary Becker Jones. As a young child, his father taught him the steel guitar, which he continued to play during his high school years, long into adulthood. From 1960-1987, Herb's jobs included machinist at Sheridan Iron Works, later Harris Graphics, then as a manufacturing engineer. He then worked for A. Schonbek Lighting in Plattsburgh as an engineer manager until retirement in 1998. Herb enjoyed playing his steel guitar, built miniature steam engines and various mechanical projects in his home machine shop. He had a life-long passion for railroading, and he and his wife had a love of sailing Lake Champlain. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Denice D. (Barcomb) Jones of Rouses Point, a daughter Tammy Jones of Derby Line, VT, 2 grandsons, Sam & Tyler, 2 sisters, Mary (Joe) Satterthwait & Cora Lee (Terry) Robinson and many nieces and nephews. Herb was predeceased by his mother in 1948, and by his father in 1965. At Herb's request, there will be no public calling hours. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Rouses Point Fire Department.
