I belonged to the same skating club as Jack back in the late 1940's. He and Joan became very close friends at that time and remained so throughout the rest of their lives.
Jack not only was a talented artist, a fine skating coach, a loving husband, father and grandfather, but a fine example of a life well lived that was an example for all who were blessed to know him.
Rest in the Lord,, Jack!

My condolences to Jack’s loving family. Jack was such a part of Lake Placid for so many years! He and Joan were fine skating instructors. Lake Placid was so fortunate to have them both. I’ll always remember Jack coming into Karen’s office for his acupuncture appointments. He and I would visit. He shared many interesting skating stories with me. Thank you, Jack for being you!

To the Devitt Family,
I must have been the worst student your parents ever had. 2 years taking skating classes and I never made it past the second button. (I think it was pink but I'm not sure.) Jack and Joan never, ever made me feel like a waste of their time. They treated me just as well as they treated their star students, Leanne and Jeff LeBrake. I think I stayed in the club for that long because as a very picked on child in school I felt safe with them. There was no judgement, only encouragement. I think the last time I put on skates was 20 or 25 years ago, but because of Jack and Joan I still hold a deep love and appreciation of figure skating, of the skill, athleticism, grace and beauty of the sport that I would not have without them. May sharing this little memory bring you a smidge of comfort at this time of loss.
With love and sympathy,
Katherine Grimard

Just two days ago I found a piece of skater jewelry your dad made, it brought back lovely memories of your mom and dad. I ran the skating program here for several years and your mom and dad were a great shoulder to “cry” on, always a bit of sympathy and then humor. I so looked forward to seeing them and was blessed to run into them a few weeks before your mom passed away, I was blessed to be able to give her a big hug. I feel so blessed to have known them.
