Obituary of Jeffrey D. Aubrey
Please share a memory of Jeffrey to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Jeffrey D. Aubrey, 68, of Champlain passed away unexpectedly at his residence on Wednesday, January 17, 2024.
He was born August 8, 1955 to Gloria and Willard Aubrey of Rouses Point, both predeceasing him. Jeff had lived all of his life in the north country and had many friends in this area. Once you met “Big Jeff” he was not easily forgotten due to his enormous size, which also held a huge kind heart reserved for those closest to him.
Jeff was the owner of Aubrey Excavating and Trucking, a business that was started with his father 31 years ago. It grew from humble beginnings with a single dump truck and expanded successfully over the years, still operating at the time of his death. He had a mechanical aptitude for anything with an engine, beginning with muscle cars as a teenager progressing to heavy equipment later on. Jeff enjoyed taking something worn out and returning it to working order; he always had an ongoing project. In his line of work, Jeff had seen a lot of local history meet its demise when doing demolition on aged structures in downtown Champlain and Rouses Point.
Above all Jeff was probably best known as a local musician and was praised on his excellent ability to play electric guitar. He taught himself to play rock when young and progressed to playing in numerous local bands over the years. Pink Floyd was one of his favorites. How he enjoyed performing at the Saxony July 4th celebration and any charity gigs; it was all about the music. He will truly be missed.
Survivors include a sister, Rhonda Aubrey of Plattsburgh, and many cousins.
A funeral and burial will be held in the spring. There will be no calling hours per Jeff’s request, in lieu of flowers he would have wanted donations to your local food bank. Arrangements are entrusted to M. B. Clark Funeral Home in Champlain.
