Obituary for Jeanne Mader

Jeanne Mader left this earthly realm on 5/13/24.

Born 9/17/1928 at the Lake Placid General Hospital on Mirror Lake Drive, in Lake Placid, NY, daughter of Gladys (Leahy) Randall and Robert Ames Randall.

A proud native, and graduate of Lake Placid Central School, Class of 1946, an active class member, belonging to many organizations, president of the Eclectic Club, Officer of her class, and a cheerleader as well as playing many sports. She also bought with her boyfriend, and future husband, a 1931 Ford Model A Roadster.

In 1950 she graduated as a Life Officer from Russell Sage College, Troy, NY. With a B.S degree in Teacher education and as a Kellas Scholar. Her interest in people and business was natural to her as her

grandfather Thomas Leahy owned the Leahy's Lakeside Inn on Main Street. She worked at Leahy's Inn from the time she was 4 years old killing flies in the dining room, to working the front desk. She married Paul Kenyon Mader 8/19/1950 and they moved to Albany, NY. That year was her first teaching job at Lansingburg High School in Troy, NY. In the summers she enjoyed working at the State Capital Building for the Vice President of State University, Don Allen Chevrolet, Remington Rand, and teaching summer school.

In 1955 she became a stay-at-home mom to a son Paul Kenyon II (P.K.) and in 1956, a daughter, Susan. The Mader family moved back to Lake Placid in 1958 and rented the house across from The Corner Store. Jeanne became active with the PTA, substituted, taught adult education, and worked in the school office. In 1960 they moved into the house on Saranac Avenue. Later, in1973 they bought their condo in Florida. She and her husband worked weekends at Whiteface Mountain. She on the ski school front desk and Paul teaching skiing. She was a trustee of the Lake Placid Public Library and served as its President. She and Paul established P.K.'s Boat Rentals in the back of their house on Saranac Avenue in 1968 to start a business for P.K. She worked alongside him until he hired his own help and ran the business himself. With her love of teaching, she continued to substitute, tutor at home and teach young people to sew, do crafts and type.

Mom was always busy and some called her the Energizer Bunny. She was playing tennis, walking miles a day and swimming well into her 80's. She loved to cook and send people soup. She must have knitted hundreds of mittens and sweaters and sent thousands of birthday, anniversary and Christmas cards. She loved and appreciated people.

She is survived by her daughter, Susan MacLennan, her partner Kevin Johnson, grandchildren Justin Mader, Nolan Mader, Duncan MacLennan, Claire (MacLennan) Vencis (David), brother Thomas (Diane Williams) Randall, their children Lisa, Thomas, Julie and grandchildren; daughter-in-law Eileen Liseno ( Chrzanowski) and her husband Robert Liseno.

Jeanne was predeceased by her husband Paul Mader (2004), her son P.K. (2000), and her step mother-in-law Claire (White) Mader (2018).

Mom set a fine example. In true form, some of her last words were "we will succeed to our highest ability".
