Speaking on behalf of the members of the Long Pond Club, the club and Skate Creek Road community have lost a dear friend and neighbor. Gary was the caretaker/watchman for the club for many years and it gave us all piece of mind that Gary and his dog Zeus were keeping an eye on things when we weren’t around. The club would like to wish our sincere condolences to Gary’s family and friends, his presence will be missed.

Mark and I are so very sorry to hear this. We always enjoyed seeing and talking to Gary and appreciated his keeping an eye on things - we called him The Mayor of Skate Creek Road. I remember how fond my grandmother (Arlene Myers) was of Gary, and I think visa versa. He brought her some kind of berry cobbler I think, one day when we were there, and sat in the yard of the farmhouse chatting with her. Gary has been part of the mountains for as long as I can remember (and longer!), and we will truly miss him. Our sincere condolences to Gary's family and friends on the loss of this special man. Mark and Rebecca (Myers) Quinn

Gary Ward is out neighbor on Skate Creek Road in Oswegathie. After the closure of the bridge across the flow, we always drove by his home at least 2 times a trip to the Myers Farmhouse or my parent's camp beside the big Rock. We always checked to wave and he was always available to check on the current condition of camp and the road when we were not their. We knew, through him, when the road washed out and the first heavy snow and when it was passable. The Road feels more lonely and less familiar with his passing. He was open to taking an ATV ride to his cabin and was always welcoming. He is and will be missed.

Gary, simply put, was a very kind and caring person. He was a tremendous “neighbor” (he lived a mile down the road - lol) to all the Myers that lived on the hill, but especially to my parents, Ken & Terry Myers. We enjoyed his quick wit, his down to earth demeanor, and his respect of nature and the land. We will miss him and wish his family all the best.
With much love,
Steve, Lorraine, Rachel, and Pamela Myers
