This may sound strange but I am reading the first of many diaries my,mom, June Haraden Gordon had left after her passing, September 8, 2017.
Fred is moms boyfriend at 18 in 1947 and they are finishing up high school. I first read Fred went to Florida to find work only to return. Then he went to Lake Placid I think to cook. I am pleased and so wouldn't mom because she ends up wishing him well, that life was very good for him.
God bless.
Kim Gordon, June Haradens daughter.
I wish I could send a pic of Fred but no was to do it here.

He was truely a great grandfather to have, from the young age of 3 he taught me and my sister how to ski. He seemed to always be on his feet, an unstopable man. Even when he was diagnosed he stayed strong and on his feet. He managed to outlast all odds, but sadly his strength caught up to him.
May he rest in peace eternally.

My sincere condolences for your loss. I worked for Sysco (actually what became Sysco) during the 70s and called on Fred at the Harbor and Signal Hill. He was a gentleman to do business with and always kept his great sense of humor. Remember the Chinese specials prepared by that famous chef Papasan Hunglo? He was also proud of the fact that he continued to work to age 80.

Our sincere condolences go to the Family of Fred, and all who he touched in his life as a mentor and friend. You didn't have to be in the Kitchen or Dining room to learn from Fred. I consider Fred to be one of the pioneers in Lake Placid hospitality whom I learned something from every time I would sit with him. God is gaining a great Man and we can all feel comfort knowing that he will make major improvements in the Kitchens of Heaven.

Nancy, Paul and all of the Richards family- my heartfelt condolences to you. Fred helped me grow into manhood as I started washing dishes in '78 then bused tables and finally waited tables until I left the area in 1981. We became friends as well as he taught me a thing or two on the golf courses of the LPC. I will find a place to have a chicken marsala, sole oscar or duck with Freddie tonight.

Very sorry for your loss. I worked for Fred at the Hilton from 99-01 while attending Paul Smiths College. I considered Fred a mentor and often share memories of him with my students as I now teach Culinary Arts at the high school level.
