Obituary of Frederick Richards

Frederick Richards Frederick "Fred " Richards of Lake Placid, NY passed away peacefully August 25, 206 surrounded with family and friends. Fred was born in Attleboro, Mass in 1929 and is the son of Helen and Clarence Richards. Fred traveled the United States after high school and landed in Lake Placid in 1948. He loved living in the Adirondacks and learned how to ski. He worked at the Lake Placid Club and started his love of the food industry. Fred skied with many of the well- known greats, became good friends with Bill Hovey and Cal Cantrell, and became a certified ski instructor. He worked at the " Greenbriar Hotel " for two years and returned to Lake Placid because he missed the mountains and the snow. Over the years he worked at many of the local hotels and opened the first " Fredericks" at Holiday Harbor in the summer and taught culinary arts at the Boces school for 3 years in winter. In 1978 he opened " Frederick's" at Signal Hill with his wife Nancy until he closed in 1989. Fred leaves behind his wife, Nancy of 64 years, two children and favorite ski partners, daughter Cathy of Park City, UT, and son Paul of Melbourne, Australia. He is survived by: 6 grandchildren: Todd Cox and his wife Ruthann of Utah, Lindsay Piper of Minneapolis, Christopher Ahlers of Utah, Finn , Ashla, and Zali Richards of Australia, 2 great grandchildren, Iris and Miles Cox of Utah. Also his sister and brother in law, Diane and Robert Anderson of Rhode Island and several nieces and nephews. Visiting Hours will be held at the M. B. Clark, Inc. Funeral Home in Lake Placid, NY on Friday, September 2nd from 11:00 AM to 12:00 Noon with a funeral service to follow at 12:00 PM at the funeral Home . Rev. John Yonkovig will officiate.
