I was greatly saddened to learn of the death of Andrew Morford. He was a great man and a true Adirondack man. He was steeped in the history and know-how of living in this rugged and beautiful part of the country. He passed that knowledge and lore to his children, and to all who were fortunate enough to meet him and learn from him.
Andy was wise, and had a great sense of humor, as well as a huge and loving heart. He loved his family and was so proud of his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren! My late husband, Carl Eberl, and I loved hearing the stories of his mother's cooking and how life was way "back in the day"! And we enjoyed visits to his home and camp! He took us to the farm where he grew up, and to some of his favorite hunting areas.
Andy lived and worked in Maine as a young man, toiling in unbelievably difficult conditions in the Maine woods, in territory this is still wild and rarely seen by the 10 million people that come to Maine each year. When Carl and I moved to Portland, Maine, in 1996, Andy and we enjoyed sharing news articles about those tough and brave men who helped build our towns and cities working as lumberjacks and hewing granite.
He was a World War II hero, and was injured in the war. Many urged him to display his hard-won medals, and after many decades, he finally did. He is the best example of "The Greatest Generation."
Andy Morford gave of himself to his family, his community and his country. He was a modest man, who never sought the limelight, but it should shine on him now and always.
It was a great privilege and honor to know Andy, and I will cherish memories, and send deep condolences to his family and friends.
Sincerely,
Julianne Eberl

To Andy's family:
I was so distressed to hear about Andy's passing. Sasha and I would have wanted to be there to pay our respects, but the funeral was the next day, so, please accept my deepest condolences. Andy remained a sweet, gentle man an our lives. I last spoke to him on his birthday and we were still able to laugh and enjoy each other's conversation. He will be missed by me.
