Obituary of Harold Thomas Lennon

Harold T. Lennon, Jr., age 84 of Lake Placid, NY passed away Saturday, Sept. 17. Harold (Monk), was born on July 16, 1932 in Utica, NY. He was the son of the late Harold T. Lennon, Sr. and Mary Alice Lennon. He graduated from Whitesboro High School and St. Lawrence University. Upon graduation, he enlisted in the United States Army where he was commissioned as 2nd Lieutenant and began his career as a helicopter pilot. He married his high school sweetheart, Virginia Wind and they had six children, H. Thomas III, Gary, Douglas, Suzanne, Timothy and James Lennon, all raised in Barneveld, NY. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and brother, a true friend who will be missed by all he leaves behind. He is survived by his wife, Nancy Hoffman Lennon and her family, Kim and Joe Amoroso, and their three children, Eric, Mark and Megan Amoroso, his first wife Virginia Lennon and his six children and their families, H Thomas and Nancy Lennon (Barneveld), Gary Lennon and Deb Wheat (Barneveld), Doug and Stephanie Lennon (Remsen), Sue and Tom Kraft (Barneveld), Timothy and Debra Lennon (Saranac Lake), and James Lennon of Colorado. He was known by his grandchildren as "DA". They are AJ and Sara Philion, Christine Philion, Emily, Mallory, Eliza, Spencer and Melissa Lennon. He is also survived by his brother Rit and wife Nancy Lennon (New Hartford), his sister Judy and her husband Vincent Cashman (Garden City, LI). He was predeceased by his sister Deborah and brother in law Jack Bathrick. He had many beloved cousins, nieces and nephews and countless SLU friends, including Brenden "Red" O'Hearn, now deceased, and Bill and Barbara Bartlett, Ralph Williams and Jerry Welch. Hal enjoyed many activities, but skiing, building boats and flying helicopters were among his favorites. He was a Rotarian for life and a Paul Harris Fellow. Many years were spent on the Board at St. Luke's Hospital and AAA in Utica. He and the late Lothar Stahlberg founded Aviation Services Unlimited. Many family and friends enjoyed taking rides with Hal in the helicopter. Hal, along with his brother Rit, followed in their father's footsteps, working in Lennon's and W.B.Wilcox Jewelers in Utica and New Hartford, NY. He was the first gemologist in Utica. He was instrumental in Lennon's Jewelers at the Florida Belleview Biltmore Hotel in Clearwater Beach, FL, The Goldmine Jewelers in New Hartford, NY, and Darrah Cooper Jewelers in Lake Placid, NY. The family will receive visitors on Saturday from 10:30 am at St. Paul's Church in Whitesboro, NY with a funeral mass and celebration of life to follow at 11:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Harold and Mary Alice Lennon scholarship fund at Utica College or to St. Agnes Church in Lake Placid, NY. A celebration of life and mass will be announced at a future date in Lake Placid. The M. B. Clark, Inc. Funeral Home in Lake Placid, NY is in charge of arrangements.
