John S. Lansing passed away peacefully on January 24, 2017 in Lake Placid surrounded by loving family. Funeral service will be held at Adirondack Community Church on Monday, January 30, 2017 at 1pm with Reverend Patti Molik officiating. Burial will follow at North Elba Cemetery. There will be no calling hours. John was born on April 15, 1939 to J. Stanley and Dorothy Lamb Lansing in Schenectady, NY. Raised in Scotia, NY he spent summers since the age of two at Camp Undercliff, a family owned music camp on the shores of Lake Placid. It was during these times that he developed his great love of the waters and beauty that surround Placid Lake. It was here too he learned an appreciation for music that gave him great satisfaction throughout his life. In 1960, while he was attending Syracuse University and she was attending Ellis Hospital School of Nursing, he met Marilyn Becker. John and Mickey were married in Mayfield, NY on June 17, 1961. Soon after their marriage they spent two years in Louisiana while John served in the US Army, stationed at Fort Polk. After his discharge, he worked and earned his Certified Public Accountant license at Peat, Marwick, Mitchell & Company in Rochester, NY. In 1969 John and Mickey moved to Lake Placid, NY to make a life-long home in which to raise their family. After a short period working at the Lake Placid Club, he established his own practice as John S. Lansing, CPA where he worked until his retirement in 2012. Throughout his career and retirement he served on many boards of directors including: Lake Placid Education Foundation, Deo B. Colburn Education Foundation, Adirondack Community Trust, Lake Placid Chamber of Commerce, North Elba Zoning Board of Appeals, Adirondack Community Church, Adirondack Health Foundation, North Elba Historical Society, National Sports Academy, and Lake Placid Institute. From birth and throughout his life he was surrounded by musicians and music. This led to his participation in Scotia-Glenville Choraliers, Barbershop groups in the Lake Placid area, Adirondack Community Church Choir, Madrigal Singers and Northern Lights Choir. In addition to his wife he is survived by his sons Douglas B. Lansing of Lake Placid and Nathan B. Lansing of Essex Junction, VT; his daughter Kari Lansing Fitzsimmons of Lake Placid; his grandchildren Elsie Fitzsimmons, Ellen Lansing, Nora Fitzsimmons, John B. Lansing and Eliza Fitzsimmons; nephew Paul Grafinger, nieces Connie Murphy, Evelyn Lecates, and Marlene Peters and brother-in-law Albert Ruiz. He was predeceased by his parents, and sisters Faith Grafinger Wikoff and Kathleen Ruiz. In lieu of calling hours the family requests that written memories of how John touched the lives of those who knew him.
