Obituary of Glenna Irene Durkin
Glenna Irene Tucker Durkin passed away peacefully at home on Thursday December 28th 2017. Glenna was born on March 4th 1924 in Montreal Quebec, Canada. Glenna shared a birthday with her mother Violet Bell (Queenie) Tucker. Her father Ernest James Tucker from Cornwall, England stated that when Glenna was born she would be Queenies birthday present for the rest of her life.
As a young adult in Montreal, Glenna worked at the Canadian Bank Of Commerce and the Canadian Pacific Railway. During World War II she volunteered for the Red Cross providing care for wounded Soldiers returning home from the War. In Glenna's younger years, she made frequent trips to Lake Placid on weekends and holidays from Canada. Glenna once said she always loved driving into Lake Placid especially in the winter time when all the houses and businesses were lit up with lights for Christmas and it had made her feel as if she was entering into a fairy tale. On one of her ski trips to Lake Placid, she met her future husband, Jack Durkin at the Fawn Ridge Ski Center. They were Married in September 1951. After Jacks untimely death in 1960 Glenna went to work full time for Merrill. L. Thomas Real Estate and Insurance. Glenna eventually became a Real Estate Broker and retired after 26 successful years.
After retirement, Glenna took up playing golf. She loved playing the game and always said she's not the best player but she's not the worst player either. Glenna also very much enjoyed Bowling, playing Bridge and other various card games. She made the best of her years traveling to Europe and also making trips to Hawaii and Florida to play golf.. She also volunteered for High Peaks Hospice for many years. Glenna may have lived most of her life in the United States but was always a very true and proud Canadian.
Glenna is predeceased by her father Ernest, husband Jack , Mother Violet, brother James Tucker, sister Marjorie and Marjorie's husband Percy Fowle.
Glenna is survied by Daughter Jane Livermore of Lake Placid. Son James Durkin of Port Richey Florida. Grand Daughters Rachel Durkin of Jacksonville Florida, Jen Fuqua of Lenoir North Carolina. Kristin Livermore of Bend, Oregon. Grandson Tucker Livermore and his wife Ralitsa of Lake Placid. Glenna is also survived by her cousin Jim Jordan and his wife Elinor, and by her Beloved cat Abby.
Calling hours were held Wednsday January 3rd from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the M. B. Clark, Inc. Funeral Home in Lake Placid. A Funeral Service will be held June 29th at 11:00 AM at St. Eustace Episcopal Church in Lake Placid, NY. Burial will be in North Elba Cemetery.
