Obituary of Reginald F. Clark

Please share a memory of Reginald to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

On the evening of July 30, 2018, Reginald F. Clark passed away in the comfort of his Lake Placid home surrounded by the love of his family. He died peacefully just three days after his 89th birthday.

Reg Clark was born on July 27, 1929 to Matthew B. Clark and Beatrice Lengfeld. He was raised, then thrived in Lake Placid, leaving an indelible mark on the community. He was a 1947 graduate of Lake Placid High School and one of his proudest moments was delivering the commencement address to the class of 2004.

After graduating high school, he attended the Simmons School of Embalming and Mortuary Science in Syracuse, graduating in 1949. He then apprenticed under his father, eventually taking ownership of the generational funeral home and has served as the community's funeral director for many decades.

In 1960, Reg married Barbara Fadden at the Lovely Lane Methodist Church in Baltimore, Maryland. Reg is survived by his wife of 58 years and their five children; Kim, Mark, Cheryl, Brian, Keith, their spouses Jim, Laura, Aaron, Deanna and Tricia. The children's family include Heather, Warren and Samantha, Alexis, Paige and Melanie, Miranda, Sora, Ashley and Courtney, Connor and Chelsea. Reg is also survived by several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his two brothers Matthew and Richard.

In 1961, Reg and Barbara Clark purchased the Palace Theatre and a new business venture had begun. People from far away and just down the street visited the iconic Palace on Main Street for generations. All were greeted by Reg who seemed permanently propped behind his antique ticket machine.

Reg served the community beyond the Funeral Home and the Palace, as a member of the Adirondack Community Church, Lake Placid Masonic Lodge, Saranac Lake Elks Club, Lake Placid Historical Society and board members to the Lake Placid Chamber of Commerce and the Lake Placid North Elba Historical Society. His most loved philanthropic groups were the Kiwanis Club of Lake Placid and the Lake Placid High School Alumni Association.

Calling hours will be held from 5:00-8:00 PM on Friday, August 3 at the M.B. Clark Inc. Funeral Home in Lake Placid with a Masonic prayer service at 8:00 PM. A funeral service will be held August 4th at 11:00 AM at the Adirondack Community Church in Lake Placid with Reverend Derek Hansen officiating. Burial will follow in the North Elba Cemetery in Lake Placid.

Donations may be made to the Adirondack Foundation at for a scholarship program that celebrates a Lake Placid High School senior who will seek further vocational education or serve in the US military.  Online donations may be made at adirondackfoundation.org/give-now and select " Reginald F.
