Please share a memory of Carol to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Carol Ann Perkins, 85, of Lake Placid passed away peacefully at home in the company of her children and family on September 25, 2018. Born on July 8, 1933 in Plattsburgh, New York, she is the daughter of the late Frances and Carl Sorensen. Carol graduated from St. John's Academy in Plattsburgh in 1951. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Home Economics from Plattsburgh State University in 1955 and later earned a Master of Science degree in Elementary Education as well. She launched her teaching career in Goshen, NY then settled in Lake Placid to raise her family. She began teaching at Lake Placid Central School and has fond memories of students and colleagues throughout her 30 years of service to the District. As her own children grew, she enjoyed serving on the Parent Teacher Association as well. Carol served as a charter member of the American Association of University Women. She was a devout parishioner of St. Agnes Church and a member of Catholic Daughters. She volunteered for Ecumenical Charities and especially enjoyed her time with friends while working at the Helping Hands Thrift Shop. She was an avid reader and very fond of dogs. She loved the Lake Placid Sinfonietta. Having attended concerts every summer season since she was 18, she was one of the "oldest" audience members and delighted in taking her seat each week. Carol never held a driver's license and enjoyed taking rides with her girlfriends, especially when they lead her to Adirondack Mountain Coffee Cafe in Upper Jay. By far, her greatest passion was the time she spent with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. The simplest experiences brought her incredible joy. She especially loved camping trips when her children were young, visits to Colorado and Florida, gatherings under the tent on "Perkins Hill", afternoon boat rides on Lake Placid, and family vacations on the beach in Maine. Carol is survived by sons Bob Perkins of Boulder, CO, Marty Perkins (Christy Mechura), Greg (Heather) Perkins, and Andy Perkins and daughters Valerie (Ernie) Fletcher and Erin Perkins, all of Lake Placid. Her grandchildren include Sam Perkins, Justin (Ashley) Fletcher, Jillian and Brody Perkins and great grandchildren, Mason and Madelyn Fletcher. She is also survived by her brother, Carl (Jayne) Sorensen of Cocoa, FL. and sister-in-law Betsy Wilcox of Clearwater, Fl. as well as nieces and nephews including Jennifer Perkins (children Quintin and Simone). Memorial donations may be made to: Lake Placid Sinfonietta, PO Box 1303, Lake Placid, NY 12946 or Adirondack Health Foundation, PO Box 120, Saranac Lake, NY 12983. Calling hours will be held Thursday, September 27th from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the M. B. Clark, Inc., funeral home in Lake Placid, NY.
