Sybill,
We are so very sorry to hear of Dale's passing. He was quick with a smile, laugh or clever story and will be remembered fondly by many.

So sorry to hear of Dale's passing. He was a great guy and a good friend. We had not been in touch with him since our retirements but will always have great memories of our work together. We spent quite a few trips together meeting to sample streams or survey fish populations for our acid rain studies. He always had stories to tell and a good laugh about something. I will remember him as a happy family man and devoted to Sybil. He will certainly be missed by all of us.
God bless, Howard Simonin

What an amazing individual Dale Bath! We first met in 1966 both recently discharged from the Army and each conducting fisheries research on the lower Hudson River frequently crossing paths and meeting over the next several years to discuss our similar work and findings. Our research was so similar that we occasionally would catch up to discuss familiar work activities but never realizing we would meet again at the ALSC. When you applied I was thrilled to hear of your interest and you became number one for our program. I could not believe how fortunate to find such an amazing proven research scientist as yourself. But that was the beginning of a renewed and working friendship. Not only a fisheries biologist of the highest caliber but a true researcher in every sense in so many areas. Dale was always positive on every issue he became involved in and always included a bit of humor and wonderful, interesting stories always in a unique Dale Bath manner that were mostly believable!! What a pleasure to talk with Dale on any subject. His knowledge of early American History, aquatic and terrestrial plants and animals, especially deer, his professional knowledge and expertise of rifles, hand guns, general gun-smithing was amazing. He was a clever precise carver and I was a lucky recipient of a deer and a black bear that will always remain on my desk. Dale was also a precise individual and everything he did seemed so orderly. I would occasionally visit Dale most often to talk about a potential hunting trip and there he would be splitting and stacking cords and cords of wood, and of course, all by hand. His piles of wood were so perfect-all pieces the exact same length. A true perfectionist for the firewood, his yard with wildflowers in back and his home. We had some great times over the years but the last thirty have sailed by! If we could only turn the clock back a bit and do a little more hunting which Dale and I enjoyed so much together- the hunts were a lot of fun and a great time to test our skills as a hunting team in the southern tier of the state. We did well hunted hard each day and in the evening I had a wonderful opportunity to hear all about life in the early days in Pa but also much about early American Indian lore and conflicts in the US as the country expanded westward. It seemed that I learned a little from Dale every day. Dale you were a top-notch individual and knowing you and working with you was one of my life’s highlights and the memories of you, your good nature, your scientific knowledge, skills and humor will never be forgotten. Rest in Peace! Walt Kretser

I had the great pleasure to work with Dale for many years at ALSC. He was an excellent biologist but even more importantly he could make everyone around him think a little deeper and could always make us laugh. Sharing an office with Dale for a few years was wonderful. I used to laugh as he would try to figure out how to use the computer on his desk which would involve frequent shouts and animated gestures. He had me almost rolling on the floor one day as he camp stomping down the hall and into the office wearing his old wood and leather snowshoes. When the 9/11 attacks on the US came Dale and I were off collecting water samples. We only heard about the attacks when we stopped for a cup of coffee in Keene Valley since the state truck we were using only had an AM radio with sporadic reception. Somehow having Dale's company that day offered me a significant degree of comfort and hope that things would be alright. Dale was stubborn as a mule but a truly honorable and good human being.

Dale was my co worker at the Adirondack Lakes Survey for very many years. Dale was a scientist, a story teller, an artist, an adventurer, a historian, and so much more. He will live on with anyone who met/worked with him as a friend and character.
I learned so much from him, sometimes what to do and other time what not to do! He was a stickler to the rules and a really great guy. His laugh and spirit will live on with all who knew him. RIP Dale, you will be missed!

Dale was a wonderful co-worker at the church. It was his retirement job to take care of the facility and grounds. And he and Sybil did a beautiful job. I was secretary in the office and really enjoyed getting to know Dale. His intelligence and devotion to maintaining the facility were amazing He made it fun to come to work and know that his projects were well taken care of. He was always ready to take on a challenge.
I miss his laugh and his reporting of how many trilliums came up in his yard each year. He took delight in so many things. His devotion to Sybil was wonderful to see. He will be missed for sure.
My prayers go out to Sybil and the family.
God Bless You all,
Claire Thayer
