Please share a memory of John to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Lake Placid: John "Johnny" Henry Rickard III, 79, passed away Saturday, October 23, 2021, at the Adirondack Medical Center in Saranac Lake, surrounded by his family.
Johnny grew up in many areas of New York State. He was born in Auburn, NY, on June 17, 1942, but his "growing years" were spent in Saranac Lake, Malone, Ithaca and Utica. He graduated from Ithaca High School and attended Mohawk Valley Community College in Utica where he pursued studies in Business. While in Utica, Johnny met and married his first wife, Joan Parker. They started a family, but Johnny's never-ending passion for the Adirondacks brought him back to the Tri-Lakes area. He soon settled his family in Lake Placid. He owned and worked in the car business and other businesses for many years until his retirement in 2003. Johnny married Susan "Sue" Devlin in 1987 and they soon enjoyed life together between Lake Placid and New Smyrna Beach, Florida. He was an avid collector of classic cars and boats. Johnny enjoyed membership in multiple classic car clubs and loved attending classic car shows throughout the years. Exchanging stories and spending time with family and friends were Johnny's favorite parts of living. Everyone was welcome to come take a seat next to him on his dock or in his office. One thing was for sure, there was never a dull moment in Johnny's presence.
He is survived by his wife, Susan "Sue" Hohmann Rickard of Lake Placid, NY, his son, John "Buzzy" David Rickard and his wife Anne of Lake Placid, NY his daughter, Kristen Rickard of Dahlonega, Georgia, two step-children, Matthew Devlin and his wife Susan, of Waterford, NY, Kirsten Devlin Cowles and her husband, Steve, of Tallahassee, Florida, his sister Caroline Rickard Gorman of Huntersville, North Carolina, Joan Parker Rickard of Fort Myers, Florida, four grandchildren, Justen, Hunter, Griffin, and Georgianna, step-grandchildren, Roger, Dariann, Brinley and Bryson, niece and nephew, John Gorman, Lake Norman, North Carolina and Carrie Gorman, New York City and Lake Placid.
